The window cleaner came to my door last week and asked me if I wanted my gutters done and I said yes. He said he’d be back this week to do them.

In the interim period, my painter and decorator has managed to fit me in to paint the outside of my house thanks to all the sunshine. He has done my gutters for me while up the ladder painting the house.

Now I’d like to think the window cleaner will come round, see it doesn’t need done and leave it. However, I’m wondering if I should put a sign on my front door telling the window cleaner to leave the gutters. I don’t want to be charged £25 for something that doesn’t need done.

I’m out at work all day so i probably won’t be in to catch the window cleaner.

I also realise that this is entirely boring and not really an AIBU (although it may morph into “AIBU to not pay £25 for something that didn’t need done” Grin)

I’ve asked a few neighbours if they have the window cleaner’s mobile number but they don’t Sad

Put a sign up somewhere where he'll see it and ask the neighbours if they see him at your house to tell him?

MiggeldyHiggins · 16/05/2018 11:16

*doesn't need doing.

Leave a note, just in case.

Nesssie · 16/05/2018 11:45

Put a sign up as he won't know they don't need doing until he is all set up and then he'll charge you anyway. Plus it would be a waste of his time.

How much setting up do they need to do? They always just shown up with a ladder and a bucket when I’ve had my gutters done!

I think it would be polite to leave a note telling him they no longer need doing.

Nesssie · 16/05/2018 12:54

bazingabazinga - I don't know tbh but I imagine if he has to put the ladder up to go and check the gutters he will charge you. It would be polite and sensible to leave him a note.

iloveredwine · 16/05/2018 13:26

Can't you text him? my window cleaner texts me the day before he is due to come so I can leave gate unlocked

planetsweet · 16/05/2018 13:30

Presuming you haven't got his number... yes put a sign up or he may set up, get up there, see there's nothing... go round the other side, put ladder up, get up there....

Aprilmightbemynewname · 16/05/2018 13:31

Unless having your gutters done is a euphemism???!

KirstenRaymonde · 16/05/2018 13:31

Can you find any way of contacting him? Someone must have his number?

kirsten

I’ve asked the neighbours whose windows he washes and none of them have his number.
