Inspired by the other thread, this was our family scenario. My dm is one of two sisters. As they were growing up, their neighbours were unable to have dc and doted on my dm & her sis. They even had a gate put in the garden fence so the two little sisters could go & play in their garden. Roll on I don't know how many years and the couple die. They left their entire estate (which was considerable) to my aunt. My dm was gutted, she got nothing, not even a keepsake and she really loved that old couple. Her sister never offered her a penny and my dm had to watch as her dsis had her entire house overhauled. New kitchen, bathroom, total redecorate, new carpets, new driveway & car, new roof & slightly bizarrely - all new internal doors Hmm That lot was followed by a succession of nice foreign holidays and a couple more new cars the following year. My dm felt very jealous and their relationship has never been the same since. 'Scuse my French but I think she was a cunt.

Thanks. Was that too good a story to put in the actual thread about inheritance?

So would your mum have felt ok if your aunt had given her a share of it even if it wasn’t equally shared? A nice sum that could change her life but not equally ?

Booboobooboo84 · 14/05/2018 21:56

Not sure what your aunt did wrong to be honest. They clearly wanted to leave her the money. If they wanted your mother to have the money they would have left it to her.

True, but that’s a horrible thing to call your mother, no matter how grabby and entitled she is.

And? Where is the AIBU? Old couple left estate to whom they chose. The end.

eggcellent · 14/05/2018 22:02

There was clearly a reason.
