AIBU to not seek medical help

DTeen has 'gone over' (her words) on her ankle when running. It was iced for about an hour. She is hobbling but can bear weight and there is no swelling or bruising. She does have a high pain threshold. AIBU to assume that with rest she will be ok or should I be seeking medical advice, which would mean a trip to A&E.

I think there would be swelling if she'd broken it, wouldn't there?

Hoopaloop · 14/05/2018 20:29

See how she is tomorrow. Sounds like bruising more than a break.

My daughter did the same action last year and ended up fracturing her ankle (avulsion fracture). There was very minimal swelling but she coped well with the pain - however she couldn’t weight bear at all.

I would say it sounds like a sprain but see how it is tomorrow

I would see how she is tomorrow, if it’s still bad maybe see if you have a walk in centre with x ray locally?

I walked on a broken ankle for a week when I was 12 and went over on my ankle

Thanks all...didnt want to be a bad parent! Really hard to know if she is ever I'll as she is a get on with it and not complain type, but at the same time I'd expect some swelling or bruising if it was a break. She has it elevated now, will see how she is tomorrow.

I would get her seen if it's not settling in a day. I can't walk on a sprain but can on a break.

Grr just spotted the autocorrect on my phone changed ill to I'll!

Would never occur to me to go to A&E to be honest. But then I've never been in my life.

My xh once walked on a broken foot for a week, he said it hurt a bit but worried when the pain started to get worse rather than better!
So I would get it checked out!
