How do you treat yourself?

Hooli · 13/05/2018 15:40

After years of low paid jobs, I've retrained and am now earning a decent amount of money with a good £500 a month disposable income (after bills, savings and things for the kids etc...)

When I was earning crap money, I could only afford to treat myself with food or alcohol, or cheap cosmetics such as nail varnish etc...

Now I've got the opportunity to, I'd like to spend a bit more on myself.

So how do you treat yourself? Do you buy/shop or is your treat more relaxation based? And how often do you do something just for yourself??

A real treat is a proper spa day.

Smaller things include meals out, a new dress or top, I class make up as essentials and don't really buy things randomly.

jaseyraex · 13/05/2018 16:04

I love a good long soak in the bath so I tend to treat myself with fancy bath bombs, salts, bubble baths, nice smelling candles etc. Pop on some music and have a glass of cider. Bliss. I generally have a long bath once a week, usually when DS is in bed so there's less chance of being disturbed.

BuffyTheMLMHunter · 13/05/2018 16:12

I used to buy myself shoes/bags (not super expensive or designer) but now I feel like I don't really need "stuff" so I buy a big bar of my favourite Lindt choc, a good bottle of wine and order in dinner for a "night off".

AlonsosLeftPinky · 13/05/2018 16:15

Massages, shoes, expensive gorgeous make up, lego, nice gins and whiskies, cocktails, weekends away, flowers, gigs, frivolous niceties like cocktail accessories, bath bombs, jewellery, designer scarves.

I like stuff.

notsohippychick · 13/05/2018 16:17

What lovely post! Well done OP that’s great!

My thing is make up. Higher end make up! Love it!

GeorgeTheHippo · 13/05/2018 16:18

I just buy nicer stuff - so the more expensive shoes, the designer make up counter rather than the supermarket shelf, go to more unmarked clothes shops. So the same stuff, but better.

And I have a cleaner.

HarryDresdensLeatherDuster · 13/05/2018 16:22

Well done you! I treat myself with things like my favourite gin and nice candles. I have recently started meditating so treat myself with time too.

One of my more recent indulgences is a shellac manicure every three weeks or so Grin

3gorgeousgirlies · 13/05/2018 16:25

Can I ask what you retrained in Hooli? I need ideas

boysmum2 · 13/05/2018 16:26

I buy myself a new lipstick

ReanimatedMuse · 13/05/2018 16:26

Make up & staitionery

If I'm really splurging proper jewellery

Happyandyouknowitclapclap · 13/05/2018 16:26

Save for a nice holiday, get a cleaner if you haven't already. Maybe put £150 or so a month aside to build some savings for security too.

JackietheBackie · 13/05/2018 16:28

I think I would invest it in a hobby, like painting or pottery - try lots of different classes and see what I enjoyed. I would also up my savings or fire a bit more in my pension pot.

GameTiles · 13/05/2018 16:33

Congratulations Hooli!

Like Buffy I don't really treat myself with stuff anymore. Saving for a holiday/daytrips/security for the future is my treat to myself.

lastqueenofscotland · 13/05/2018 16:34

Tickets to things - off to see a band next month with a friend that will be a £££ night out but worth it
I love running so entering running events too

BanginChoons · 13/05/2018 16:36

I'm currently retraining. For me it will be holidays. Hairdye done in a salon instead of diy. I would so love a cleaner!

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 13/05/2018 16:37

Breakfast in the Sainsbury's café. We don't have much spare money.

acceptableMargin · 13/05/2018 16:43

I fuck off for the afternoon. Eat in a restaurant by myself, maybe the cinema or massage afterwards. I love no one speaking to me; children (mine), children (school) or DH who thinks silence is the work of the devil.

I don't mind shopping with a purpose but don't enjoy it for the sake of it. I do like food shopping when I know I'm going to cook something nice.

Actually, a grocery shop followed by coming home and cooking (for the family) but only me in the house with music and wine is a real treat.

2000lightyearsaway · 13/05/2018 20:03

How nice OP, congratulations. I get my nails done, occasionally buy myself a piece of clothing or accessories (but I try not to make it a habit), go to the cinema or pop on a nice face mask with a good book and my fav choc

JaceLancs · 13/05/2018 20:25

Coffee and the papers fairly often
Gel nail polish
Eyelashes dyed and brows waxed
More expensive clothing than I used to buy
Jewellery
Antiques

mirime · 13/05/2018 20:46

Books. Jewellery making supplies (just made an order can't wait for my parcel to arrive). Lego for DS.

Sparklesocks · 13/05/2018 20:48

Well done Op!!

I have a few little things I do.

I get a nice takeaway the Friday after payday.

I get a shellac manicure on a month.

Ever so often - a nice bottle of white wine and a box of truffles and settle down to watch something on Netflix.

My group of friends and I love spa weekends so we keep an eye on secret escapes/groupon etc for deals. We can only afford to do this a couple times or year but it’s a lovely treat, flouncing around in bathrobes and swimming in the pool, I always pick the massage as my treatment - nothing better in the world, I love the gentle music and the dim lighting. I always ask the masseuse to go quite hard on my knots as I hold a lot of tension in my back - I think because I have a desk job and I’m akways hunched over a computer. I walk out completely relaxed and can just feel all the daily stresses melt away.

Bridesmaidinchief · 13/05/2018 20:48

Well done OP!

I like a really good, expensive face mask (Charlotte Tilbury / Sand and Sky etc). I also buy myself books, like to have a big stack in my 'to read' pile that never gets smaller because I buy faster than I read Grin

Ansumpasty · 13/05/2018 20:49

I need to know what you retrained in as I need that kind of disposable income :)
I buy myself a nice new top. I’m easily pleased!

Sparklesocks · 13/05/2018 20:50

Also every once in a while - a poncey cocktail in a trendy bar!

vampirethriller · 13/05/2018 20:52

I buy fancy cake. Or nice colouring pens.
