SIL offer

Long time lurker first time poster

Nothing serious but my SIL rang to ask if we would like her old pushchair as DN no longer uses it and would be "getting rid of if not", we gladly accepted only for her to then casually mention that it would be £30, until then there was no mention of money.
AIBU to be slightly annoyed that there was no warning?

To be fair my sister has given us so much stuff for my little ones and still is as hers grow out of things that I offer her money or buy her some fizz regularly.

I would be saying "don't worry, that's ok. I haven't got a spare £30 at the moment. I'll have a look on Freecycle". And yes I'd be a bit miffed but it's not worth causing a fuss about.

Babymama44 · 12/05/2018 22:31

£30 for a push chair is a bargain.

YANBU it's bad form to charge family. if they really need the money they should just sell it online.

pacempercutiens · 12/05/2018 22:34

YANBU. it was quite cheeky to wait til you'd said yes before mentioning money. Sounds like a cheeky way to try and push you into paying as you already accepted!

Boulshired · 12/05/2018 22:37

If you want to sell something the opening line should be “would you like to buy X” and definitely not make out you are doing someone a favour by gifting them something with a hidden price tag.

we always offer money and no one ever accepts, I have no problem about buying something off of family if they were honest from the outset, £30 is an absolute bargain depending on the state of the pushchair... In contexts, we have given SIL quite a few things for free and in the past, SIL has dropped off stuff "I thought DN would like" with no warning then stays for a couple of hours even if we are super busy!
Families Aye!
