Ancestry DNA kits

Just posting here for traffic and quicker answers.

I bought one of those ancestry DNA kits (mine is my heritage DNA)

I just want to ask, after you bought yours online did the company call you on the phone before you got the test in the mail to go through the test etc with you?

They called me but I was on my way out and told them they would have to call back (and I just want to check with others on here that it's normal for them to call after you order a test)

OH I don’t know I got one for my birthday from dh as had been going on about them!

However you don’t need a phone call to read and follow instructions to spit into a tube only to a specified line!

Results were interesting and correct in that they found distant 3/4 cousins with the same surname as my grandmas maiden name.

No phone call here but I don't give mine out generally anyway. Instructions were very clear and easily followed. Just waiting for the results now.

Pikehau mines with my heritage, it's not a saliva sample, it's where you have swabs and have to scrape the inside of each cheek for 30-60 seconds (1 swab per cheekGrin)

Oh right sorry! I thought you meant Ancestry as in the company. Just googled - didn’t know there were
So many.

I have done a private medical test where they called to talk you through it before sending it back.

Sorry Elserflower forgot to reply. It was a heritage one from Ancestry but you just spit in the tube, no swabbing. Just got the results back, much as suspected 40ish Welsh/Midlands/Southern England, 30ish Southern Mediterranean (Greece/Italy - actually Cyprus but they don't narrow it down that far) with a side order of Syrian and Western Europe.

No although I rarely give out jmy number as I don't like calls. Mine was ancestry and their terms were clear. It worked well.

Mine was as expected and in fact my great granny's sister's ancestor is still in that same village and she and I got in touch (I realise that's quite remote a relative but still nice to see it actually works ). Sitll not found a since ancestor even back to 1700 on either side who was not born on these islands although some were on Orkney so may be they were norse originally.

I did the one from Ancestry,,The results are taking some wading through but I have connected with a few people.
New results are downloaded frequently.
I have to say though that I found the spitting in the tube a bit gross,,,
