To want vaneers?

My teeth are white near the gun but have a visibility "wine line" across them which make the bottoms of then a weird brown colour. They look awful. I think vaneers would solve it but DH thinks it's unnecessary expense and I should just pay for teeth whitening. I know loads of people who have paid for whitening and you can't even tell they've had it done! DH thinks vaneers look fake and American. Who is right?

I think veneers are quite hardcore - they file down your teeth!

That being said, my friend who has had veneers is v pleased with them.

IceSwan · 11/05/2018 20:50

Veneers can look amazing but some can look awful.

I'd definitely experiment with whitening before getting your teeth filed down to pegs.

You might also want to experiment with those click in veneers fake teeth to see if you like how you'd look.

At the end of the day you have to be happy with yourself so your money your choice

I don't think you should get 'vaneers' - sounds like a dodgy 75% off treatment in some backroom parlour.

NeedForBlossom · 11/05/2018 20:53

I have veneers and my teeth were not filed down. They are placed over the original tooth.

'A veneer is a thin layer of porcelain made to fit over the front surface of a tooth, like a false fingernail fits over a nail.'

BrazzleDazzleDay · 11/05/2018 20:57

Your dh is right. Pay the 300 for whitening then reconsider if your unhappy

liverpoolmiss · 11/05/2018 20:58

Depending on the discolouration they can put a type of ‘paint’ (not really paint) over it which covers the mark (I know someone who had this done.) I would suggest consulting a trusted dentist about the various options for your personal situation. Good luck!

foxyloxy78 · 11/05/2018 21:38

Oh good god, not veneers. They look so bloody fake. Go for the whitening and keep it looking as natural as you can.

NeedForBlossom · 11/05/2018 22:46

foxy a decent dentist matches them to look exactly like your real teeth.

Why do your teeth look like that though? Have to been to the dentist to get advice? I'm sure there is something they can do that isn't as drastic as veneers. My front teeth went darker because I had root canal on them years ago. I was able to get them bleached internally which sorted them out. Proper bleaching done at the dentist usually does work. I'd look into that first

Frazzled2207 · 12/05/2018 07:44

Yes and bear in mind that veneers fall off/need to be replaced after about 10 years. Obviously you have to shell out all over again so it's an extremely expensive thing to have to commit to.

fluffiphlox · 12/05/2018 10:37

I had two veneers fitted in 1988 and they’re still going strong. As I’ve said before on here, they’re older than the dental nurse (by a long chalk).

Confusedbeetle · 12/05/2018 10:59

Veneers are as good as the dentist and the technician who makes them. Many people ask for perfect white etc and these are the ones that look awful. Natural one match your teeth and should be designed to match the colour, and in my opinion have a flaw or two. The teeth are not ground to pegs, bit a little surface is removed and then the veneer is fixed like a false nail. I have had some for 20 years and they look perfectly natural. The only thing I would say is that the biting edge is not quite so sharp so I dont bite apples. They dont need to be replaced after ten years. Op is describing an odd disclouration. Bear in mind that whitening is not altogether without issues. The bleach compromised the enamel
