Condescending emails

AIBU to think management send deliberately condescending emails last thing on a Friday just to be deliberately upsetting?

My manager doesn't.

wellBeehivedWoman · 11/05/2018 16:21

That would be a very weird thing to do, haven't encountered it myself. Sorry yours are arseholes Sad

AmazingGrace16 · 11/05/2018 16:23

It was sent when they probably expected me to have left already and could have been a discussion for another time rather than a not very pleasant email last thing! Just annoyed at the way some people approach things

Yes I had an now ex-manager who did this - in fact he timed them to have maximum impact when he wasn't there.

He was an absolute arsehole and 100% the reason I left, despite loving the job itself.

Thankfully, I now have an excellent manager who wouldnt dream of behaving like that, probably because he's not an insecure arrogant twat.

AmazingGrace16 · 11/05/2018 16:32

I think you're probably right about the insecurities!

OP posts:
RadioDorothy · 11/05/2018 16:37

Yep, they put you down because it fulfils their own desperate need to be superior, thus confirming their worth.

Deep down they are insecure, incompetent and inept, and terrified of being found out.

itstimeforanamechange · 11/05/2018 16:41

Yes I think companies do it to customers as well. They send horrible/worrying letters to arrive on a Friday or Saturday so you don't get it until you're home from work on a Friday or on a Saturday so you can't do anything about it and have to stew until Monday when they open again.

hidinginthenightgarden · 11/05/2018 16:55

Our work always give bad news on a bank holiday so people have "had time to digest it before returning to work". Always ruins the Bank holiday.

Sportinginjustice · 11/05/2018 16:59

Ha! I've just logged into Mumsnet to distract myself from the weekly fury that happens when a particulari person in our head office drops a bombshell 20 minutes before we close. Always the same person and always on a Friday. This week it turns out that a system error had been made in relation to a project and we all need to re-do a whole load of reports manually. By end of the day on Monday. So that's just destroyed my weekend.

Feeling your pain OP. In my case I think it is far too coincidental that this particular person always just happens to find out and has to pass on bad news at the end of the day on a Friday and nothing at all to do with her not wanting to field a barrage of angry phone calls.

Possibly FlyingBird! Although I suspect there are a few them around.

I know the lady who replaced me has given her notice...maybe it's you Grin

AmazingGrace16 · 11/05/2018 17:42

This particular manager has just got a promotion so I think he is throwing weight around unnecessarily.

Poshjock · 11/05/2018 17:51

My personnel dept always send out contentious stuff like pay info and grading reports on a Friday just before they leave so they don’t have to deal with a barrage of phone calls and to give people cool off time I guess.

I have come home and deleted my work emails from my phone, purely so nothing happens to ruin my good mood!

I'll reinstate them Monday morning Grin

AmazingGrace16 · 11/05/2018 18:22

I'm off to a spa day tomorrow and would normally be checking emails and sending emails over the weekend. I replied to this original email which indicated a response required and nothing received so it was clearly sent before he went home. What an arse. This manager has also taken my ideas that I wasn't allowed to run with and then passed them off as his own. Not pleased!

OP posts:
RadioDorothy · 11/05/2018 18:35

Worse, was that he managed me but I managed the team, so he wanted me to pass on all his vicious put downs and snide remarks on his behalf - and told me I was useless and ineffective when I refused.

Such an arsehole. Hmm

Blaablaablaa · 11/05/2018 18:38

I've just been for an after work drink with my manager. He never sends condescending emails at any time of the week.

Sounds a bit crap tbh

AmazingGrace16 · 11/05/2018 18:49

I wish managers would just have those conversations rather than doing it via email. It's such an ineffective way of managing staff and is so lazy.
