To think these young people were rude?

I was walking into a service station tonight on my way home. As I was walking in I heard some young people shouting from their car in the car park "we've got the doughnuts" and then "we've bought the doughnuts" etc. I didn't turn round as I thought they must be calling to their friends except I was the only one around. They continued to shout and I realized they were shouting at me when they added "you fat b*tch" at the end. AIBU to be shocked at how incredibly rude these young people were to a stranger they didn't know! Shock yes I am fat but there's no reason for them to be so rude!

Young and stupid and egging each other in op.don't waste another second thinking about them.

Idontbelieveinthemoon · 10/05/2018 22:33

There's no AIBU; they were vile and hopefully will choke on actual doughnuts at some point in the next 24 hours.

Flowers And remember that their awful behaviour says nothing about the size you are and everything about the shitty humans they are.

CharlieandLolaCat · 10/05/2018 23:02

Awful behaviour. I used to live in a pretty rough area and nothing really phased me apart from groups of teens. I found they could end up encouraging each other and showed off to their mates and I, like you, was overweight and could end up being on the receiving end of some pretty nasty comments.

Easier said than done, but try and let it wash over you, they used to pick on my skinny friend too if it helps.

myfriendbob · 10/05/2018 23:04

Are you expecting anyone to come on and say "No, someone shouting fat bitch at strangers isn't being rude at all"?

Hmm
rodstewartsmerkin · 10/05/2018 23:05

Well obviously they were rude Confused

Do you think anyone with any shred of decency will come on here and argue that calling anyone fat is acceptable?

Cazz10 · 10/05/2018 23:14

What the actual fuck?

whatareyoueatingNOW · 10/05/2018 23:45

Yanbu

However. I regret, genuinely so, crowing "two fat ladies! 88!" At some women in the the 90s as a teenager. Not me alone. A group of us.

They must have felt awful. We were filth and I hope the people with me carry the same shame as I do. We did it to feel big and cool and to intimidate Sad

What I am saying is - teenagers can be rude and frankly they can be cunts. But don't despair. They might turn out okay and regret their actions .

What the actual fuck, Cazz?

DuchessofManchester · 11/05/2018 18:50

Op I'm sorry there are some absolute cunts in this world who love putting down others because of their size....such as Cazz

WafflesWafflesWaffles · 11/05/2018 19:25

Vile. I've been in that situation so many times. It's intimidating and embarrassing.

It's okay for people to say they're just teenagers and are being silly, but it doesn't change how much one little comment can upset someone and affect their day.

I'm fat (size 16) and I'm extremely anxious and shy. I'm an easy target for knob heads.

I dropped Dd off at nursery a few months ago. Temporary traffic lights were on the road outside so traffic was busier than usual. Young lad wound his window down and shouts 'fatty' at me. I usually ignore and will be upset about it all day but as I crossed the road his car was stuck at the lights. I thought fuck this and I tapped on the passenger window and shouted 'sorry what did you say, I didn't hear you'. He didnt know what to do and he laughed at first but then he soon looked very embarrassed and uncomfortable. I continued to stand at his window and tap, asking him to repeat himself and he squirmed in his seat looking at the lights. I got my phone out and pointed it at him and I said 'oh I see you work at so and so, that's good to know!'. The lights changed and he drove off and stuck ones up at me 😂

I'm not sure I'd be brave enough to do it again in the same situation but it made me feel loads better!

Waffles I applaud you!! 💐👏 xx

Thehogfather · 11/05/2018 19:38

As cazz has demonstrated so well, it had nothing to do with your size. Whatever your appearance if someone wants to be a twat they'll find something to say.

The way I see it, if anyone feels the need to insult another's size it's their way of telling the world they really aren't happy with their own physiche.

2andcountingtodate · 11/05/2018 19:43

A prat is a prat, as demonstrated by the teens and a poster on this thread.

Small minds and big mouths, of course they were very rude.
