Baby Weaning

Hi all,
My 4 month old has just started on purée food once a day. When he gets to 6 months I’m wanting to do the led weaning and introduce solid foods to him. Has anyone else done it this way? Purées fed by spoon now and then letting himself pick at 6 months for solids.. did it go ok? Thanks all Smile

Any reason you have started so early? What you are suggesting is traditional weaning tbh - start with puree and then move to a mix of puree and finger foods.

It's better to wait until 6 months unless specifically advised for medical reasons but yes, I begun with mostly purees at 6m and babies all moves on to finger food later. I suppose it's not technically baby led at that point though.

No, I was told that the two ways didn’t work that well together. BLW didn’t work for me so we went the purées etc at 6 months.

I’m guessing there’s a reason for you weaning early so it might be different in your case anyway?

We're basically doing what it says on all the packets: purees at 5.5months cause they were ready, slightly lumpier food at 7months and now they're 9months really want to try more finger foods etc but they don't have teeth yet so I'm reluctant.

You'd be amazed what they can manage without teeth!

I did a mix of the two, spoon-fed things like yogurt, porridge and fruit purees and gave steamed vegetable sticks, toast etc as finger foods. DS is 9 months now and we usually have a spoon each.
