I sent my car to the usual mechanic 4 weeks ago for a service and MOT. The mechanic doesn't do MOT tests but there is a place on the same site as him where he sends cars tonfor MOT and then he does any repair/other work.
I have used the same mechanic for a number of years as does my husband and several other family members. He is always busy so is well used by other people as well. His work has always been excellent and reasonably priced and I have never had cause for complaint.
Car apparantly passed MOT with flying colours (no advisory items) and mechanic did the service for me, all good.
Last week (so 3 weeks post MOT/service) I went somewhere on the motorway (my journey to work doesn't take me on motorways so I don't often use them) and noticed that between 65-70mph I could feel resonance. On local roads I could also hear a noise coming from the rear wheel and there was play in one of the front wheels when force was applied with a foot. I also noticed some moisture near the back wheel on inspection but couldn't tell where it was from. I booked the car in with usual mechanic.
My husband picked it up and was told there was a burst shock absorber at the rear (hence fluid and noise), plus a track rod and needed doing at front where the play was plus a the was loose.
The shock absorber I accept could have been damaged on a pot hole since the MOT although I am usually careful to avoid them and don't recall hitting any very hard. I am also fairly sure I could hear a noise in that area before the MOT. Surely though, the track rod end should have been picked up at MOT?
I want to query it (politely!) But DH says just leave it !
So, aibu to be annoyed that two fairly significant repairs needed doing so soon after a supposed MOT pass and want to query it?
