Be it by trans activists or instamums or whoever -

YANBU.

Predominantly male sites aren't being targeted in the same way as MN.

TanteRose · 10/05/2018 15:22

YANBU

'Twas ever thus.

BabyItsAWildWorld · 10/05/2018 15:23

She speaks truth:
"today’s attitudes towards Mumsnet mothers are a measure of how all mothers – and by extension all women – are perceived. By that, I don’t mean all women are Mumsnet mummies at heart, but that responses to those women provide a measure of what all women can get away with."

wellBeehivedWoman · 10/05/2018 16:00

It's not really surprising that MN isn't popular with the trans community or trans activists given prevailing opinion on here! Re instamums I think there were some good points raised in those threads but also some pure nastiness, so I can see why it put some backs up.

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 10/05/2018 16:31

YABU - and who fucking cares anyway if one website slates another one anyway ?

The trans bigotry on here is such a fucking bad look . Really bad

I hide the threads now . but I find it very sad and disappointing

mellowW · 10/05/2018 16:34

Yes.

But when popular consensus is that users of a forum tend to be detached from reality, aggressive, argumentative, insular etc, do you at any point wonder if they might be onto something or do you keep on telling yourself that you're one of the enlightened few?

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 10/05/2018 16:36

But I also don’t think this website is demonised . If anything - it’s become very successful - so go us!

balsamicbarbara · 10/05/2018 16:39

a modern-day spinning circle/witches’ coven

Ha!

EeebyMum · 10/05/2018 17:27

@stopfuckingshoutingatme you’ve not read the article have you.

@mellowW good point, and I agree that there is no smoke without fire, but I think the reputation MN has is often used as an excuse to discredit women’s opinions.

OP posts:
Bestbe · 10/05/2018 17:43

I completely agree. There are people who overstep the mark but they get shouted down quickly.
Womens opinions are undervalued and the perception of mumsnet reflects that.
Critics will support other women in their sectors come what may. It’s really bizarre.

catandtheteapot · 10/05/2018 17:43

Women talking about being sahm = too lazy to get a job

Women talking about being working mums = neglectful parent

Women talking about fashion, hair etc. = vacuous airheads

Women talking about politics = getting above themselves

Women talking about shopping, cooking, cleaning etc. = boring drudges

Women talking about sex and dating = sluts

Women talking about relationship difficulties = frigid nags

Women talking about juggling everything and wanting to share the load = feminazi man haters

Women talking about anything else which affects them = ‘witch’ usually covers it

We can’t win. We can never win.

TERFragetteCity · 10/05/2018 17:46

I think it is hilarious that all the while the men thought we were just talking about nappies and shit and as soon as they get a whiff that we are getting too big for our boots and talking politics they all come on trying to show us the error of our ways and when that fails - they just stand in a corner pointing and shouting TERF at us.

I haven't even got kids! Never talked about a nappy in my life.

catandtheteapot · 10/05/2018 17:56

It’s funny to see men running around like a demented cockerel furiously trying to keep control of his hens whilst they wander off, oblivious to his indignation Grin

And we all know what happens to excess cockerels Wink

Sontaran · 10/05/2018 17:58

I've just got your username TERFragette! God I'm slow.

Sontaran · 10/05/2018 17:59

Have seen it many times and not clicked.

It's not a race Smile

myfriendbob · 10/05/2018 18:06

The trans bigotry on here is such a fucking bad look . Really bad

It might be if there was any, but there isn't. The "claiming there is transbigotry everywhere when there isn't" is a really fucking bad look though, so could you stop that? Thanks

Sontaran · 10/05/2018 18:06
Smile

Will be singing that all evening now!

BeyondParody · 10/05/2018 18:11

Another great article by glosswitch.

And there was this the other day, if anyone missed it...

BoiledFrog · 10/05/2018 18:18

Mumsnet has always been denigrated in the media, look at the Wright stuff happy to nick ideas left right and centre, but we are all hateful breeders, uptight middle class po faced numpties, or vacuous biscuit lovers.

The reason I value mumsnet is because it is one of the only forums/platforms where casual sexism/misogyny isn't ever present, or where it is, it is challenged. Reddit can be fun, but the awful comments, even funny ones just wear you down after awhile.

queenofsass · 10/05/2018 18:43

I don't think MN is demonised, more ridiculed. To be absolutely honest I can sometimes see why! Some people are batshit! In fact more than 'some', but it has its good points too

ISaySteadyOn · 10/05/2018 18:53

There is nothing a certain type of man is more terrified of than a bunch of women talking.

And glosswitch, yanbu at all. YA just awesome.

CadyHeron · 10/05/2018 19:05

Instamums had a good discussion on the surface, but an underlying core of utter obsessive whackos underneath it. So, yeah. YABU.

EeebyMum · 10/05/2018 19:22

Cadyheron you are very invested in instamums,

SurfingUSA · 10/05/2018 19:29

Eeby, I think Cady likes to have a good fight, while thinking she's the voice of reason.
