I know there's a weight loss board but I need answers this evening as I want to start tomorrow!! Can you provide any help/tips about this type of diet? Went to buy a book at lunchtime but nothing in the bookstore. Have been googling all afternoon. Need to find answers as to what fruit, if any is permitted? What salad dressings/ yoghurt are allowed? Are carrots/oats part of the diet? Like I said, any tips or advice at all really appreciated

Have a look at the Diet Doctor website- all explained in simple terms and loads of recipes to try.

Thanks, have spent an hour on that site today! Just hoping to hear from some people with actual experience

Go to the low carb bootcamp section and read any one of the bootcamp threads. There's a list of "rules" and spreadsheet with lots of useful info on it, including carb calculators etc.

If you have any specific questions, post a thread in there and someone will be along to answer it.

No fruit at all
No grains no potatoes
Basically animal meat eggs fish and low carb cheese like extra mature cheddar, blue cheese. Yogurt is too high in carb.
A small handful of nuts
Avocado, half a day..10 olives a day

Breakfast like cheese omelette or bacon and eggs
Lunch tuna mayo salad no sweetcorn or chicken salad
Dinner: steak, cauliflower rice or mash

Go easy on tomatoes as higher carb. Lemon juice 1 or 2 tbsp. Lots of olive oil butter in coffee instead of milk (unsalted) or fullfatcream.

Good veg: green leafy types, aubergine, cauliflower, celery, cabbage

No carrot potatoes peas .... look at atkins induction recipe

I lose quicky first week. Appetite died after 5 days.
Then my shape changed but the scales slowed down. My skin cleared and my brain was so alert but i had a weird breath and it restricted going out. No booze but vodka and sugar free soda is tolerable. But will slow your weight loss. Drink minimum 2 litres water. I loved ready to eat marinated prawns, pizza made using meat as a base, flaxmeal muffin in a mug.

Dietdoctor Lchf website is very good as pp said.

Marksdailyapple blog, robb wolf “paleo solution” blog both also very good. All the info is out there for free, but there are books, and I find dietdoctor subscription site well worth it.

It takes a bit of getting used to (you may feel quite unwell for a few days with “carb flu”), after the first 2 or 3 days, if you are hungry, eat more fat, if you are still hungry they you probably need to cut carbs back even further (I’d say go for less than 20g carbs per day, particularly in the first weeks of low carb eating).
Don’t spend time and money trying to create low carb versions of junk food and treats- just eat real food that’s naturally low in carbohydrate.

In a nutshell- eat mostly natural unprocessed foods- meat, fish, eggs (cheese, butter and cream if you eat dairy), green leafy stuff and other above the ground vegetables. Have some seeds, nuts and berries but not too much. Have some onion, carrot, tomato, but not too much. Have some sweet potato, but not much.

Avoid white potato and all cereal grains (including oats, rice and corn/maize, and anything made with processed grains (flours, cakes, breads etc).

Drink water, tea, coffee, very dry wine (low sugar content), and spirits.
Avoid beer, lager, sugary mixers, sugars coke, fruit juices etc.

The results can be absolutely astonishing (both heath and weight wise), it’s a long term WOE (way of eating), and not just a diet- well work giving it a month or two to see how it works for you IMO Smile

Get ketostix so you can spot when you go into ketosis. In future you'll be able to feel it but seeing the little sticks turn pink is fun and useful when you are new to low carb.

*well worth

If you stick to it you will lose a lot of weight. Felt and looked my best on low carb high fat. Paleo wasgood maintaining but the fastest loss was atkins (without the fancy shakes and bars).
