To wonder why ‘dp’ has to be drunk to do DIY?

My DP is doing DIY today- painting a fence- which apparently requires him to work his way through 8 cans of cider. Me & the kids have been out to the park as couldn’t bear to watch him get more and more shedded.
Aibu to think you don’t need to be shedded to do some DIY just because it’s the bank holiday. I didn’t need 4 cans of cider to clean the bathroom, hoover the whole house and tidy up today 🙄

Is he stumbling around or just getting on with it?

It depends I suppose.

19lottie82 · 07/05/2018 18:27

What does shedded mean?

Cheeseplease73 · 07/05/2018 18:28

Shedded means really drunk and annoying! He’s kind of getting on with it but it’s taken all day!

Hmm - if I was out in the sun doing some DIY I'd certainly fancy a drink but yes 8 cans is a fair amount. Not sure why you listed the jobs you've done today - are you pissed off that he made his job more enjoyable and you martyred on without?

19lottie82 · 07/05/2018 18:29

If it’s a one off I’d say leave him to it.

TheOneWith · 07/05/2018 18:29

Well, it’s hardly skilled work, and it is beautiful weather. Is it finished? Has he done an ok job?

DH and I have had a few beers whilst jetwashing the patio and sorting the garden.

LolitaLempicka · 07/05/2018 18:30

I don’t know, I think that it probably makes a boring job go that bit better. I don’t really drink any more, but when I did I enjoyed having a few glasses while doing a particularly dull chore. 8 cans does sound like a lot though so your fence may be a bit patchy!

Crikey. I agree that is worrying.

Namechange128 · 07/05/2018 18:32

After 8 cans, either your fence will be rubbish or his tolerance is way too high to have a healthy relationship with alcohol...

MidLifeCrisis2017 · 07/05/2018 18:33

Am I the only one who thinks shedded is a great word for getting drunk whilst in possession of Cuprinol?

Sorry to be flippant as this was an issue with my ex (an alcoholic). His excuse was hydration on a hot day.

AvonCallingBarksdale · 07/05/2018 18:33

8 cans Shock I’d be on the floor Confused. Probably not the best idea to be drinking in the heat whilst attempting to DIY. Is this “ normal” behaviour for him?

Cheeseplease73 · 07/05/2018 18:36

@midlifecrisis ha ha, yes, didn’t think of that meaning of shedded!!

Maybe he miss heard when you said I'd like the fence painted and the house well plastered.

Wolfiefan · 07/05/2018 18:37

People with an alcohol problem will take any excuse to drink. 8 cans? If he isn't totally shitfaced he must be drinking too much far too regularly.

Sprinklesinmyelbow · 07/05/2018 18:39

My dad used to do this, I don’t think it’s unusual it’s just a. Boring job in the sun so he’s spicing it up a bit

Knittedfairies · 07/05/2018 18:45

8 cans.... .I’d be drinking Cuprinol and painting the fence with cider before I got to can 8.

mither · 07/05/2018 18:52

I don't think you need us to tell you that excessive though.

geekymommy · 07/05/2018 18:52

Getting drunk and doing DIY doesn't sound like a good combination to me. Getting drunk where your kids can see you doesn't sound like a good idea to me, either. But I'm American, maybe I am misunderstanding other people's cultures.

SlowlyShrinking · 07/05/2018 18:55

My dad used to do this if he did any jobs at my house. I think it was because he could get away with it when my mum wasn’t around to tell him not to drink 😳

merrymouse · 07/05/2018 18:56

8 cans is ridiculous and I think you know that. Does he usually drink that much?

MumoftheBoyandtheGirl · 07/05/2018 18:58

I think it depends if it’s an one hour job or a five hour job 🤷‍♀️

NC4Now · 07/05/2018 19:02

A couple of beers in the sun, yes. Eight cans of cider though? Does he often do this or has he just got carried away?

DillyDillyDally · 07/05/2018 19:06

A couple of drinks doing DIY on a bank holiday is fine and normal. 8 cans is a bit too much though
