Hand-me-downs

AIBU to be a bit Hmm at the headlines in the Sunday papers about Prince Louis wearing hand-me-downs. Is it really that surprising that the royal family re-use clothes: it would be hugely wasteful if they didn’t. Apart from one of my ILs, who referred to hand-me-downs as cast-offs, I have never met anyone in real life who didn’t pass clothes between children in the family, and most people I know give baby clothes to others and receive from others.

Shocker!

I am shocked that they hand down shoes. But I suppose they aren't wearing them for long not like school shoes.

I bet they aren't handing down their real everyday clothes.

They aren't buying their clothes from Primark Confused

Clothes that normal people (like us) buy these days are very different from expensive well-made ones. It was common when I was a child for working and middle class families to buy children’s clothing from ‘nearly new’ stalls as it was better made with quality fabrics and much more expensive. These days it is much cheaper but barely lasts til children have grown out of it.

They use hand me downs for sentimental reasons, photoshoots etc. It’s not out of frugality or necessity really. Those shoes won’t be worn for much longer than it takes to take a photo.

Seeing Prince Louis (I really don't like that name) in Prince George's soldier tunic would be really adorable.

The name reminds me of king Loui from the jungle book... yeah, I know, I know that there were several real king Louis... but I had to think of the jungle book.
