To wonder if this is discrimination?

So today at the doctors I went in about my irregular periods, the doctor tried to put me back on birth control and I explained that we are currently TTC and I don't want birth control.
Her reply was "you're only young, go back on birth control and come back in five years about starting a family"

I was stunned and embarrassed so just left but it's played on my mind all day. I didn't get any legitimate help or advice and just got fobbed off and maybe discrimination isn't the right word, but surely that's not ok?!

I'm 24 years old so I'm hardly a child.

What exactly do you think she was descriminating against? She was shit and you should complain and see another GP. But it’s hardly discrimination.

AnneLovesGilbert · 05/05/2018 22:48

I agree, definitely unhelpful and not her place to give you her opinion on when you should ttc, but on what grounds did she discriminate against you?

As you didn’t get the help you needed, book another appointment and ask for a different doctor.

If that was her only suggestion for irregular periods, she is awful. Also really
not her place to pass judgement on your family plans.

see another doctor

I agree that its discrimination on the basis of age :(

This could count as age discrimination. You might want to have a chat with EASS.
