AIBU but just seen this article this morning and I'm genuinely shocked. m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=10156684753779162&id=6149699161

As much as I detest this government, I really have qualms over the truth in this story. I think stories like this are divisive and are why benefit claimants get such a bad press.

We all have to make sacrifices based on what we can afford.

Me and dh both work, but there's still no way we could afford a third without drastically reducing the opportunities available to the two we already have.

People should be grateful that the state will support them in having 2 children.

Very well put jedediah

We already have a thread on this!

I agree. We all have to cut our coat to fit our cloth. Tax credits included in u/c for working tax actually give quite a reasonable income. I receive a little tax credits, probably having a fourth child, I know I won’t get any extra. We will just have to budget carefully and tighten our belts until I can go back f/t and we won’t need them.

These women must be on similar incomes so it is doable if you want to.

I think they’re having abortions because they’re not prepared to cut back on their lifestyles rather than genuinely unable to afford.

IronMansIronButt · 05/05/2018 12:48

Nobody forced that woman to have an abortion, they just said she wouldn't get any extra money for it if it was born. Which is not at all the same thing.

This very subject is being discussed at length here.

Mightymucks · 05/05/2018 12:51

Oh my God I just read that story fully that is horrendous. Her partner doesn’t work and is in training, if they wanted the baby so much why couldn’t he give that up and get a job? I think it’s pretty heartless to have a late term abortion for the sake of money. If they’re that hard up the poor child could have been adopted.

Jessikita · 05/05/2018 18:15

I agree. These people are already manipulating the benefits system so they can both be lazy. “He doesn’t live with us, we can’t afford it.”
Now they at indignant that the taxpayer wouldn’t foot the bill for a third child. Benefits are supposed to be a safety net not a lifestyle choice.
