What to wear with work uniform

My new work uniform is white and fairly opaque. Obviously wearing black underneath is a no-no, but white is visible too. Suggestions as to what to wear under it please?

Surely they should provide you with suitable clothing?

WeirdyMcBeardy · 02/05/2018 22:04

Skin coloured items. Much less visible than white.

TheIsland · 02/05/2018 22:05

Beige or skin coloured.

SomeMothers83 · 02/05/2018 22:09

Hadn't thought of skin coloured! Thank you. I didn't realise how bad it was until I got home and my DH commented! I obviously didn't wear black underneath, but thought white would be okay not realising everyone who'd seen me today could see my undies!

Is it a dress or trousers/top?

Ideally. But its cheap material

What sort of uniform is it? If it's a dress can't you wear a full length slip?

Eliza9917 · 02/05/2018 22:32

Could you wear a white vest top underneath?

Scootingthebreeze · 02/05/2018 22:33

Maybe go old school and wear a petticoat then on top half a plain cami underneath?

Yes, it's a dress. I was thinking of a slip and vest or full length slip. It would be obvious I'm wearing that, but I suppose it would be better than my underwear being obvious!

Long white vest from next would do the trick

suitandheels · 02/05/2018 22:44

I have a friend who is a beauty therapist; similar situation to you in that she has to wear a white dress which is made from a fairly cheap and pretty shit polyester material. Depending on temperature she either wears a full slip or just a half slip and vest top. She does find sometimes that the half slip in particular works its way down a bit so that the lace hem is visible below the hem of her dress but I guess that's not a major problem.

Nude coloured underwear is the way to go. I used to have white shirts for work that were horrendously see though. Thankfully we've now got cheap static navy ones.

Does that really work, though? Can people still not see what you're wearing?

When my daughter used to dance if they had to wear a white leotard they would always wear a body stocking underneath it in a flesh or beige colour. So a slip in those tones should be ok.

Fatted · 03/05/2018 06:42

Flesh/nude coloured underwear works, as long as it doesn't have any pattern etc.

ToastyFingers · 03/05/2018 06:46

Nude underwear only works if you're nude coloured, ie not darker or paler.

A super long bum-covering vest would work, then if anyone sees it, it's clearly not underwear iyswim.

Furano · 03/05/2018 06:47

Flesh coloured underwear, or a slip. The slip would just act more as a lining.

cindersrella · 03/05/2018 06:48

Nude?

DuchyDuke · 03/05/2018 07:03

If it’s translucent I would personally wear the darkest thing possible to make a statement. They really should be giving you better quality clothing.

LearnFromThePast · 03/05/2018 07:07

According to a friend red underwear doesn’t show under white, but haven’t tested it out myself yet

DuchyDuke · 03/05/2018 07:07

@learn - lies!

Therealpallini · 03/05/2018 12:00

Pale lilac or a pale pink also work really well depending on your skin tone.

BedtimeTea · 03/05/2018 12:12

Slip, white would make the uniform look less flimsy I think. Would make the white uniform a better white.

Redcrayons · 03/05/2018 12:13

Nude rather than white is less visible. I usually wear vests, but That’s mostly because I’m always cold.
