To ask what to give as an evening guest for wedding?

We’ve only ever been invited as day guests so not sure about etiquette for evening guests. We know the groom as he is OH’s old school friend. They haven’t provided a gift list. Was thinking cash- but how much? We are really scrimping at the moment as we are trying to get a deposit together. I’ve bought nothing for myself for a few months! Would £30 from us both seem very stingy? Maybe £40? Thanks in advanced!

Evening gifts are much smaller in my circle. We'd either give £25 or a bottle of champagne.

I think £30 is fine or even a nice bottle of wine and a card

Generally I judge it on how well you know them! Old school friend but still sees often? Still close?
I also judge it that if they don't provide a gift list they are not expecting anything.
Usually a card & a bottle of fizz will suffice!

Agree with @MrKaplansGlasses.

Bottle of champagne or £30 would be about right in our circles too.

A framed photo of yourselves 😂

We had a wedding list , but were delighted when some ignored it and got what they wanted to get us as a gift. Fifteen years on, the wooden fruit bowl and the dining room walk clock is still going strong. It doesn’t matter if you spend a fiver on the gift, as long as you buy it with love and turn up on the day ready to celebrate with them.

Absolutely this ^

A bottle of champagne is always nice. When we got married a colleague of my husband's and his wife had a little hamper that they made sent to our room - it had wine, snacks, and bottles of water. It was fab!

Thanks very much for all your replies! That’s all very reassuring!
