We promised the dc that we'd get a dog once we moved house and had settled. We've now been here 6 months and feel the time is right. Have arranged to visit a rescue centre later in the week. I planned it would just be me and DH but he's insisting we take the dc (10 and nearly 8) with us. I've refused because it's a huge decision, and I'm worried the kids will fall in love with a dog who is completely unsuitable for us. I said to DH we'd take them later on to meet a particular dog (before potentially adopting him or her) if we found one we liked. He says its there choice too and they should be there 
am I be unreasonable or should we take them on the initial visit? Advice please
