Posting here for more traffic.
I’m 30 years old and sometimes I spot for a few days before my period, and other months I don’t spot at all and it just starts.
I’ve had my hormone levels checked and they are normal, and my smears are normal. Does anyone know why this might happen? And do any of you spot some months and not others? Thanks

Watching with interest- sometimes it’s like I have a 10day period due to spotting. Going for smear next week and going to mention it to nurse. It’s weird as I’ve got older the pain is less but headaches/ moods far worse.

It’s so annoying isn’t it?! Do you always spot or do you sometimes have months where you don’t at all?

I used to sometimes spot for 2/3 days before my period. I don’t anymore since I had the kids. I was 24 when I first got pregnant if age is relevant.

This started to me after having my daughter. I would never spot before, it would always just start. When periods returned after DD some months I would spot a few days before other months just start. Currently pregnant with number 2 so be interesting to see what happens when my periods return this time. No idea if it’s normal or not though!

Following too! I spot pretty much every month, sometimes from a week before. Been ttc for 10 months now and whilst doctors don’t seem worried by the spotting I can’t help but think it’s a sign of a problem.

SparklySeashell · 01/05/2018 20:41

Before the DC and even after DS I used to just come on like a tap being turned during my first wee of the day after getting out of bed, every single time!

Since DD was born I spot for about 4 days before anything happens, makes the whole saga about 10 days long! 🙄

Spotting in the second half of your cycle could be due to luteal insufficiency (low post ovulatory progesterone levels)

mumof06darlings · 02/05/2018 00:18

I'm the exact same. I always had perfect cycles and now I spot for a few days - nothing then for a few days and I'm now waiting for my period and it feels like it's stuck. I'm 37 and have an underactive thyroid so always wondered if it was related. Aswell as spotting, some months I don't have any spotting and the bleeding part has become heavier some months and lighter the next. Actually I'm v nervous now as I just had a smear which I was told was fine but there is a cervical smear problem here at the moment so I need to go for another one.

happymumof4crazykids · 02/05/2018 00:45

I'm nearly 39 and am having the same problem. My periods are getting closer together as well. Gp said it was probably due to my age but wouldn't run any tests as my last smear(over 2 years ago ) was normal. I don't bleed after sex but do have spotting after a bath sometimes. I'm not using any hormonal contraception so maybe it is just the peri menopause Sad

CatRen27 · 02/05/2018 04:20

I was spotting for days before my period started and had a scan which found a polyp in my uterus which was causing bleeding. It was benign, just had it removed via a d&c and the bleeding stopped. It was getting in the way of conception so if you're trying you might want to look into getting an ultrasound down.

Good luck!

Ansumpasty · 02/05/2018 07:00

I wouldn’t worry about this, spotting just before, just after or mid cycle is considered normal.

BananaBanana1999 · 02/05/2018 07:29

Is it too close to your period to be ovulation spotting, do you think?

Frosty66612 · 02/05/2018 08:28

I’ve had a pelvic ultrasound and also a vaginal one and apparently there are no polyps, fibroids or cysts etc. Progesterone levels checked on day 21 by a blood test and it was at an normal level. I just find it weird how some months I spot and other months I don’t

I don’t spot every month either. Using non hormonal contraceptives so I’m thinking it’s me! Occasionally spot after ovulation too. Be glad when I’ve had my smears next week. Not exactly looking forward to it iyswim but I’ll have mind eased when it’s done. I’ve never had bloods done for it so that may be a way forward. Honestly now I’ve had my children I just see my periods as a HUGE inconvenience and want rid! My friend has implant contraception and has no periods- a bit jealous but not brave enough for implant plus pill doesn’t suit me and that’s easier to stop.
