Ok so come on. Am I just unlucky? Why do they last about a month then stop working?

I was told to ‘get them from Apple’ so I did. Lo and behold this has stopped working too.

I’ve got teens. I cant not have them cos if their phones die they also, die, loudly.

Is it a conspiracy?

The cables go if you don’t treat them right. Hold them at the top when you unplug your phone rather than just yanking the phone off the cable.

Did you actually buy them from Apple (not just ones listed as official, from eBay or amazon)? If so take them back and they should exchange them if they’re lasting a shorter period as you say.

YANBU, ipad the same, we’ve a black charger cable, it works really well and isn’t showing signs of giving up after 6 months (the brand is Belkin and it is made for iphones, came with a car charger).

MNscum · 01/05/2018 18:19

Amazon own brand ones seem good.

GeekyBlinders · 01/05/2018 18:20

I've had the same Apple chargers for literally years, with zero issues. How much are you using them?

CoffeeIsNotEnough · 01/05/2018 18:29

Get braided cables. I've never had a problem with Apple chargers, but even Apple cables can go at the neck of the connecting bit.

Amazon do some good braided cables. Or just buy Amazon basics in bulk.

motorpink · 01/05/2018 18:29

What do you do with them that they only last a month Shock

Spanglybangles · 01/05/2018 18:29

It has to be abuse if it’s a genuine apple charger imo. I had the same iPhone charger for 4 years, it lasted my last 2 handsets and was still going strong until I gave it to dd, who goes through them at a rate of knots, and it was wrecked within a couple of months.

I am now using the one that came with my current 2.5 year old phone but was brand new in the box for 2 years until I gave that last one to dd. I keep it in the same socket, it doesn’t get pulled and stretched and I think that’s how mine last.

I now buy cheapos in bulk off amazon for dd as she is forever breaking them so no point in spending extra on the genuine ones for her.

SerenDippitty · 01/05/2018 18:32

I’ve had a braided one for my iPad, it went the way of the others. I do resent paying 30 quid for an Apple one but nothing else seems to last.

Ollivander84 · 01/05/2018 18:36

Belkin and Amazon both last well for me

olderthanyouthink · 01/05/2018 18:37

Apple ones have a 1 year warranty so you can try and get them to replace it

WomanEqualsAdultHumanFemale · 01/05/2018 18:39

My apple one went in a few months. I just buy the £1 chargers from Poundland now and I’m still getting a few months out of them.

AgentHannahWells · 01/05/2018 18:39

Reinforce the top of the cable with a nerf bullet and elastic band. They last a lot longer then. And please don't leave them plugged in to socket but no phone as my friend had a fire.

Troels · 01/05/2018 18:40

I got a load of poundland ones, they last just as long. We discovered Dd was pulling them out by the wire and not the plastic end that goes into the phone. Since we told her thats why they are breaking she's been good about being more careful and the last two I got are still going after 3 months.

YouBeautifulSunflower · 01/05/2018 18:40

Anker cables are good and I think mine have lasted a bit better than the Apple ones. I get the braided ones. They do some 10 foot ones that mean I can Mumsnet from the sofa.

thecapitalsunited · 01/05/2018 18:42

I use Anker braided ones. They last me about a year. It’s definitely to do with just being yanked out of the phone and being bent especially near the ends of the cables.
