To sack builders

I've got dodgy builders doing some basic maintenance work.

It was estimated to take 8 days, we are now at day 22. For past 2 weeks they've said there's only a day or two of work left to do. Yet still it goes on.

We've had some crap weather which accounts for some delay, but they've not put in an appearance on some perfectly good days. Every time I stop by one of them is sat in van with only one working.

They've drip fed issues so I've paid out about 60% of the final cost so far. Not seen them since Wednesday due to alleged van problems.

Shall I just tell them not to bother coming back? I'm a bit scared of them to be honest. Is there a legal reason why I can't just terminate their "services".

Not sure about the legalities of sacking them. Unless there's a contract then (I think) you are well within your rights to find someone else more suitable. Hope you get it sorted.

What work are they doing? How much is left? Is it even done properly?

I would speak to them tomorrow and find out exactly what's going on, if you haven't seen them since Wednesday then I would suspect they're on another job. Do they have social media you could check and see?
