AIBU to HATE the Sleepyhead

DS has been squeezing into his sleepyhead at 7 months and we can't afford the next size up so have taken it away. Will I ever sleep again? Will he ever settle in his cot? I really wish we had never started with the damn thing!!

Can you try a rolled up towel under the sheet instead? We never bought one but that's what we did when DD entered a period of rolling (and shouting about it Hmm) in the middle of the night.

Take the tube shaped cushion out of it and lie a sheet over to help transition him.

Oysterbabe · 29/04/2018 20:08

As in put the tube shaped cushion around him.

We took DD out of hers at just over seven months as she started sleeping on her front and it made no difference to her sleep. If anything it got easier to settle her as she would roll to her front or side and doesn't like being rocked to sleep anymore, so it may be fine!

earlybirdhasanap · 29/04/2018 20:10

We tried to take it away at 7 months and it was a disaster. Tried again four weeks later and it was fine. Can you leave him in it a bit longer and then try again?

DrWhy · 29/04/2018 20:12

As someone above said, take the tube out, tuck it under the sheet around him in a slightly bigger shape than the sleepyhead. Gradually move it bigger until you can take it out.

covetingthepreciousthings · 29/04/2018 20:14

We did what PP suggest & just took the tube out and put it in cot under a fitted sheet. Still using it at 22 months, just making sure we're getting our moneys worth out of it! Grin

Sausagema · 29/04/2018 20:14

I was petrified about taking it away. Total anticlimax, she was absolutely fine.

seeingdots · 29/04/2018 20:14

YANBU. We tried all the above and ended up getting the bigger one in desperation anyway. Hope you have better luck!

She's now 1.5 and sleeps fine without it but I'm not sure what this 'settling in cot' thing you talk of is Grin

We bought the larger one when LO was 9 months, it was used for another 3 months before she decided she didn’t like it anymore. I wish we’d never bothered buying the bigger one. Try your LO without it, you may find they prefer not having it

Ds aged almost 3 is going to have to come out of the big Sleepyhead soon... dreading it! Sad Good tips on here though!

whoopsiedaisies · 29/04/2018 20:29

Good idea about using the long bit under a sheet- may try that. He keeps rolling over and grinning at me and then bumping his head on the cot bars Hmm

We tried at 7 months and it was a disaster left it until 8 months and she was fine. Loved all the extra space.

RiddleyW · 29/04/2018 20:44

I was dreading it and then it made no difference at all! He’d slept nowhere but the sleepyhead from about 4 weeks old and I thought it would be awful but no!

Same pointless dread recently with he transitioned to a proper bed with zero drama. I need to chill?
