To ask if there are any Manchester Meadows?

My friends definitely think I'm being unreasonable, I'm driving them mad with it๐Ÿ˜‚

Does anyone know of any meadow type areas in or around Manchester? I'm in South Manchester but happy to drive.

I'm desperate to spend an idyllic Summers day in a meadow, on a blanket, with a picnic. I don't just want any old bit of grass land, I want to go somewhere really lovely. Does anywhere like this exist?

I have no small children to consider if that helps. I was thinking of somewhere like this:

*Note my picnic wouldn't be that fancy

Macc woods or Delamere Forest?

BBTHREE76 · 28/04/2018 18:45

Stamford park in Ashton under Lyne is an amazing place when the weathers good. (Lots of picnics going on). Sale water park used to be nice but I havenโ€™t been for years.

Crispbutty · 28/04/2018 18:47

Heaton Park? I spent many many sunny days there as a child, and as a teenager on dates. Not been for a while so no idea if itโ€™s better or worse now though. It was a lovely place when I was a child.

Lyme Park
Tatton Park
Dovestones.

Crispbutty · 28/04/2018 18:50

Tatton hall is nice to go to for picnics as well but obviously not free to go in.

DratThatCat · 28/04/2018 18:52

Theres some lovely meadows in Stretford, you get to them through Stretford Cemetery. There's a lovely river that runs alongside as well. I have many fond childhood memories riding my bike there and paddling in the river.

KindOfMagic · 28/04/2018 18:55

Urmston Meadows. But Stretford a bit mixers as per pp. Also Brereton Park in Holmes Chapel has some gorgeous meadows attached but obviously quite a drive away!

*stretford a bit nicer!

MrsAukerman · 28/04/2018 19:02

Chorlton meadows. Park at the horse and jockey then ask for directions.

Clawdy · 28/04/2018 19:35

Reddish Vale Park in Stockport. Lovely farm there as well.

ifigoup · 28/04/2018 19:37

Thereโ€™s a meadowy bit at Fletcher Moss once youโ€™ve gone through the formal gardens.

Lookingforspace · 28/04/2018 19:38

What about Dunham Massey? The deer park is fairly meadow like and thereโ€™s always people sat on blankets on nice days.

mancmummy1414 · 28/04/2018 19:39

Heaton Park is lovely but gets busy! So go on a weekday when kids are at school

changedmynamex2 · 28/04/2018 20:06

Fletcher Moss is lovely when it's dry.

StripStripHooray · 28/04/2018 20:23

Heaton Park. We love it. Don't know what Haigh Hall (haigh woodland Park) is like now as i haven't been for years. But I remember greenery Grin

sunnyjune · 28/04/2018 20:24

Ah thank you all! I'm going to google all of these.

I was at Heaton Park a couple of weeks ago, it was lovely but didn't see any meadowy (?) areas. Obviously could have missed parts though it's huge!

Have a look at the villages up Saddleworth way... Uppermill, Dobcross, Delph are all beautiful with lots of green space around.

DharmaInitiativeLady · 28/04/2018 20:39

Lyme Park

FoundNeverland · 28/04/2018 20:43

Quarry Bank Mill

RumTiTum · 28/04/2018 20:49

It'll be hard to tell yet, most of the places that might look like your picture come summer will look like 'any old bit of grass land' at the moment, so for example the grassy bits at Heaton Park might become 'meadowy'. I don't know btw, never been!

sunnyjune · 28/04/2018 21:11

Very good point Rum!

If you are south Manchester then Chorlton Meadows is on your doorstep, plenty of meadows, with the River Mersey running through. You can walk along the Mersey between Sale and Chorlton water parks. Cafe is Sale WP and ice cream van at Chorlton, with Jackson's Boat pub in-between.
