Hi, so I’m 20 I have 1 daughter and I’m thinking about getting the implant so I get through uni and get a job without pregnancy etc, as it lasts 3 years (all going well) I would have it out just before I’m 24. My and my partner would like another at 25 (me)and 28 (him). I just want to know how long did it take your cycle to regulate/you to get pregnant after the implant? ThanksGrin

What is your aibu?

Ginkypig · 28/04/2018 01:46

It's easy enough to google for an answer which I suggest due to us mostly not being doctors but my understanding is it is not a contraception that builds in the system so once it's out within the week your back to fertile.and when you get it in I think it advices condoms for the first 7 days.

You can catch on your first cycle no problem.

Clueless1315 · 28/04/2018 10:35

I was pregnant three weeks after I had it out. I had the implant for 6 years, so I didn't expect to conceive so fast. Ex proclaimed he had super sperm Hmm

Why go to Uni and then have another child straight away? Surely you would want to enter into the working work to build up a career (& a home, savings pension etc) - unless you are already wealthy??

Zcarter · 28/04/2018 10:48

I had mine out end of aug 6 weeks to first period then I was pregnant In that first cycle.

Notsureabc · 28/04/2018 10:53

Lifebeginsatgin we would have a child in 5 years, I finish uni in 2 years, also everything going to plan we should have 35-45k deposit as I finish uni so we should be able to buy a house hopefully 🤞🏻 Also I would’ve been working for 2 years.

YABU to post this in AIBU. Wink

I had three implants in a row, so 9 years in total and my periods came back about 6 weeks after I had the last one out.

OhBergine · 28/04/2018 11:05

Took 18 months and one cycle of Clomid for my cycle to go back to normal after having my second implant. Got pregnant the first month of trying after that, but it definitely screwed up my hormone levels.

Ginkypig · 28/04/2018 11:17

I think the implant gets blamed a lot but actually I think the problem is that it lasts three years so in those three years X however many you have it so 3/6/9/12/15 years your cycle changes and your body and your fertility changes but the implant hides it so once you take it out people blame it when it's actually something your body did naturally due to age or medical changes etc

Hi @clueless. I'm interested that you conceived so fast. I had implant our lot 3 weeks ago and I have just had second AF since then.. what was yourbcycle like? Obviously I don't really know where I am at now as I don't know if the bleed I had after removal wad a period or a withdrawal bleed.
