Potential neighbour's war - over a fence...

I've posted here before and got some helpful advice. I don't know what to do. Or who is being unreasonable.

Backstory (sorry if this is long)
My parents and their next door neighbour decided to change the fence. All good. Looks fine imho. My mum is a different story. I'll get to that in a moment.

However, when the new fence was put up, they (neighbour & my Dad) decided to put the flat sided fence panels facing neighbours garden so now the new layout in our front garden has the opposite side (which has the beams and everything on). So will be visible.

The problem? that exactly. My dad was helping the neighbour who knew this, except my dad didn't say anything about it, and now my Mum is very upset and is saying how really ugly new fence is, and horrible, she just keeps crying about it, and keeps going on about it.

This escalated earlier as the final panel is about to go in and apparently nothing can be done because of cement panels or something. Also most of the soil is now on their side so now she is annoyed because they will have to buy more soil to plant things to hide the walls.

I'm not taking sides. but to be honest I don't care as it is JUST A FENCE, but it is making me anxious.

Do people really cry about fences? 🤔 tbh she should have discussed it with your dad if she wasn’t happy. YANBU to not want to hear about it anymore OP, I wouldn’t either.

Why can't they just label it on both sides?

mynameismrbloom · 26/04/2018 20:38

Who paid for it?

ipreferbooks · 26/04/2018 20:43

she has discussed it. Several times infact. Except she wasn't there when they put it up. They both paid equal amounts through some organisation that deals with money+neighbours Can't remember the name.
I don't understand what you mean by labelling the fence.

Put wooden slats on BOTH SIDES. Then both sides are finished. Is this really that hard to sort out?? It will cost next to nothing additionally.

i am paying for my boundary replacement fence (2 sides of my garden!). Etiquette is that I have the beams facing me. I am really pleased - I can wire and put up plants much easier. I say this, as an absolutely shit gardener. What am I thinking!! All my plants die. But that is still better odds than having flat boards.

ToadsforJustice · 26/04/2018 21:02

I can understand why she is upset. She's got to the look at the ugly unfinished side if the fence.

Witchend · 26/04/2018 21:06

Ask her why she thinks the neighbours should have to look at an ugly fence-presumably that's what she thinks should have happened.
She won't notice it after a week anyway.

People can be incredibly petty over fences-wasn't there someone on here who wanted their fence some bright colour like red and wasn't content with just their side being like that, they went and painted the neighbour's other side? And what's more thought the neighbours were UR to object! Grin
