To be fed up with drivers ignoring zebra crossing

A few times this week I have been in the middle of a zebra crossing and have had to wait for drivers to drive past/screech on their brakes. If I didn't stop in the middle I would have been hit.

I think people are soo busy rushing around all the time they aren't driving carefully.

Ooh this has been boiling my blood this week too. Never encountered it before but really bad where I am. Tempted to throw something in the road and let them hit it and remind them that could've been my child. GrrrAngry

If there's an island in the middle and you're standing on it then it's a separate crossing and they don't have to stop until you're on it.

If it's all one crossing then they're just careless tossers. And there are a lot of careless tossers about.

It's definitely getting worse.

Apparently zebra crossings in supermarket car parks don't count either. Angry

PrettyWisdomous · 26/04/2018 20:12

Yes!! Careless drivers wind me up.

I was wondering the other day though, if a careless pedestrian just stepped onto a zebra crossing without looking and got hit, how much responsibility should they take for their action? Of course the driver should stop, but to just walk out would be very silly.

MrsHathaway · 26/04/2018 20:12

To clarify: an island with flashing lights on it.

mselastic · 26/04/2018 20:15

All one crossing and no island.

I was in France last year and felt incredibly safe on zebra crossings, but I am getting worried here

I’ve noticed this. I don’t step out as I’ve got the pram with my son and don’t want to risk someone not stopping so I wait until someone slows down but so often drivers seem to think it’s optional to stop

While we're on the subject of zebra crossings, what is the law regarding the zig zags that lead up to the crossing? I don't drive so I'm not sure, but I thought it was prohibited to park on them? There's a zebra crossing outside my DGD's school and whenever I've been there, there is always at least one car parked on them. They never seem to get a ticket.

mynameismrbloom · 26/04/2018 20:31

I always make eye contact with the stopped driver before crossing because a guy once nearly hit me as he was fiddling with his glove box or radio and creeping forward not looking...

MrsHathaway · 26/04/2018 21:32

Zig zags often have a time limit on them e.g. a set near a school I know is no stopping/parking 8am-5pm Monday to Friday but do what you like evenings and weekends.

specialsubject · 26/04/2018 21:35

zig zags near a crossing are dont park there at any time. doesnt matter if you are late for school, desperate for chips or really need that bottle of wine. park further away.

and i also become invisble on.pedestrian crossings , even with big red lights above me.
