1st birthday presents

So for background all of my friends are very middle class, have good jobs etc and their children have piles of toys and clothes so they don’t really want for anything.

We were invited to a few 1st birthday parties before my dd turned 1 so I bought each one a book as a present, I got them from the works so full price they would have been around £7-£8 but I paid about £3.

When my dd turned 1 we had a party and almost all of her presents were around the £10 mark and a couple were nearly £20, have I been really stingy just giving a book, and if I give a more expensive present at any future parties will the parents I gave cheap presents to be upset?

Interesting that piles of toys and clothes makes you middle class.

But to answer your question - if they're upset with your gift, they aren't middle class, they have no class.

You give with an open heart, and the price never matters. Don't worry about stuff like this, life is too short.

No, I think books are always good presents.
Just in answer to Yorkie though, OP didn’t say that loads of toys and clothes make you middle class, she said they were middle class AND had loads of toys and clothes.

I don’t think you have been stingy as you just didn’t realise. TBH I’d either spend £10-£12 or buy something that could have cost that much had it been full price. So a book like you describe and a t-shirt. (Next do those 2 for £10 ones so I would give one of those) total cost would be £8. Going forward I would spend about £10.

Now that your DD has been given presents it’s nice to reciprocate the value if possible.

yorkie I’m sure you know that’s not what I meant Hmm

Thanks everyone, I feel a bit better now Grin
