Spelling errors on divorce certificate.

Also posted in divorce but might get a quicker answer here.

Has this happened to anyone?

My DP got his divorce certificate in and his first name is spelt incorrectly. They have also spelt his ex wifes address wrong and wrong postcode.

Does this affect it in anyway?

We are going to CAB tomorrow to ask but posting here for quickness. Thanks

Got it sorted he's still divorced and they'll send out a new certificate.

Phew!!! I would have been worried too.

The sherriff court said his divorce is still valid but if he were to use the certificate for anything then it wouldn't be because of the spelling mistakes.

The cab phoned the sherriff court infront of him so all good.

I wonder if she'll get a new certificate. He's going to let her know anyways.

Bet you are glad it is all sorted and this still means the divorce is final ;)

Oh bloody hell can you imagine "sorry sir, wrong name, yer still married"

GrandTheftWalrus · 27/04/2018 22:40

That's what I said. Getting a wedding all booked and paid for and being told "no wedding for you as you're still married!"

It also made me check my divorce certificate! Luckily all fine.

As an aside my name was misspelled on my wedding certificate - when I got divorced the court sent my first application back on account of this and I had to pay extra to resend with an explanatory letter. I did try and make the case that if it was that important then maybe I wasn’t married and didn’t need a divorce after all but apparently it does work that way. Grrr
