To not understand all the "AIBU to not understand..." threads?

Fully aware of the hypocrisy in this . Not a TAAT but about lots of threads. Examples:

AIBU to not understand....
... why some people are obsessed with [thing I am not bothered about]
... why some people are not bothered about [thing I am obsessed with]
... why some people dress/parent/groom/decorate/clean/eat/shop/vote/socialise/spend their money in this way that is different to how I do it?

How hard is it to understand that people are DIFFERENT?! Everyone has different backgrounds, upbringings, situations, levels of wealth, personalities and, you know, preferences. And that's a good thing!

Not thinking about AIBUs which actually affect the OP, or someone they know, or indeed society generally, more where the OP is "struggling to understand" something that is completely harmless and nothing whatsoever to do with them.

Semi lighthearted but I would be interested in knowing why some people are constantly questioning what others do. Is is really not understanding and wanting a genuine explanation, or is it just a way of judging? Why do we as women constantly do this to each other??

YANBU at all. In most cases the "I don't understand why people..." really means "Hey - anyone want to join me in being snide and unpleasant about people who..."

Yep, basically! Of course I see the irony, hence how I started the post.
But, I am genuinely curious to know whether the OPs in these posts really don't understand, or whether they just want to demonstate their superiority and have people agree with them. And yes I still see the irony
