AIBU to feel sorry for minidiscs

They just never had a chance at life did they. Came in and almost immediately got rendered completely obsolete by mp3s. Poor little things. And all those hi fi systems adapting for them.....

Anyone else feel sorry for inanimate objects in a stupid way like this!

Struggle to throw away anything with a face!

I'm with you, OP! I actually still have a load of minidiscs, plus a very good Sony portable minidisc recorder and player that was brilliant (and still is!) - it meant you could use it as a portable dictaphone too if you plugged in a microphone, and the minidiscs were pretty sturdy too.

You've now got me wanting to find the minidisc player and resurrect it from being obsolete! I'm hoping it still works... it was worth a fortune at the time! Grin

My husband had a minidisc player when I first met him, he loved it. But he bought his first ipod soon after and that was the end of the minidisc.

I don't remember minidisc albums ever being sold in the shops.

I loved my minidisc player. Reminds me of a great time. Although it was fiddly getting your cds onto the minidisc! RIP mini discs

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 23/04/2018 22:11

Sound quality was so much better on minidiscs than on your average MP3.

Raindrop12 · 23/04/2018 22:11

I've kept my minidisc player in the hope it might one day become a collector's item!

Ooh, loved minidiscs, still have our minidisc player and had one in the car instead of a CD player. Not used one for ages though....

AlecOrAlonzo · 23/04/2018 22:25

I loved my minidisc. I haven't listened to music on the go properly since because I hated the iPod so much.

I had the verve urban gyms as a pre-recorded mini disk album. So they did exist, there just weren’t many of them.

Marmite27 · 23/04/2018 22:27

Urban hymns Hmm

Snoopyokay · 23/04/2018 22:44

urban gyms haha. I loved my mini disc player it was definitely a step up from the portable cd player which used to run out of batteries and constantly skip when you were walking!

Ohyesiam · 23/04/2018 22:45

What about 8 track stereo cartridges?

Daddystepdaddy · 23/04/2018 22:52

Sony made an active decision to put ridiculous copy protection on them and then wondered why the went out so quickly. No sympathy.
