I’d love to know your cleaning hacks / tips / wonder products. I’m currently on maternity leave and want to make the best use of any time I spend cleaning the house.

I bloody hate cleaning the bathroom!

I love the method range but only when it's on offer :)

Bathroom: I wipe down everywhere with an antibac wipe (love the lemon ones from wilkos) everyday. It takes about 3 minutes and means it never get too grim. Once a week or so spray everywhere with a cleaning spray (either method one or cif actifizz if anywhere is manky), squirt some bleach down the loo, then leave it to do its job for 20-30 mins. I usually go off and strip beds/vacuum upstairs til I go back and wipe it all off, easy! Then quickly vacuum bathroom and finish off with steam mop.

Wonder products wise, I love my cordless Dyson so much, sad I know Grin. Microfibre cloths for dusting.

Clean the shower while you're in it. Use something eco friendly, or just elbow grease.

Clean rest of bathroom whilst kids in bath.

Shoving a cordless vac around daily is less work than dragging out the big hoover and shoving it around.

Keep cleaning products in the rooms you use them, so it seems much simpler to just open a cupboard and quickly dust a room when the adverts are on.

Ironing is a total waste of time. Never do it. Crumpled is cool.

I procrastinate when it comes to cleaning, as I hate it and used to end up with it all to do at the weekend. But I recently came up with an idea which works well for me. I put all the rooms in a pot and each evening after work I pick one out (sometimes 2!) and clean that room. Once they've all been used they go back in the pot and I start again. So at least once a week each room gets properly cleaned. Inbetween is just the usual pickup and tidy stuff.

It works well for me because I don't feel like i've spent ages cleaning and everything generally stays pretty ok between cleans.

SweetMoon · 23/04/2018 16:13

names of the rooms in the pot, obviously, not the actual rooms Smile

I’m loving these suggestions, I think doing something daily is going to help, I’d never really thought of that. I’ve always been a blitz everywhere sort of girl when breaking it down makes more sense.

I never iron either, unless it’s a special event like a wedding!! My mum thinks I’m strange, she irons EVERYTHING Hmm

I clean my Stainless Steel hob with antibacterial spray like normal and then use baby oil. I've never managed to get rid of the streaks and this hack has totally blown my mind. It was actually quite sad how excited I got about it Grin

Get an ostrich feather duster, then you can just swirl it around/on/over everything on a surface and it attracts the dust with static. You don't have to pick up and move every single thing to clean. I also like to swish it over the skirting boards, light switches, picture frames and doors/door frames as it's so quick.

When full of dust or you've finished a room, just shake it vigorously outside to get rid of the dust.
