to stuff all my neighbours cigarette ends in their letterbox?

We live in flats with 3 other neighbours in our block. The occupants of one flat are young and often have friends over with the usual loud music/ slamming doors. They are always leaving cigarette ends directly outside our communal entrance. I usually pick these up as we are trying to sell our flat and it looks terrible. Am getting really sick of it now and thinking of picking them all up and stuffing them through their letterbox. Am I being unreasonable?

Just as an example, my mum is 79 years old and has never ever smoked.. one of her neighbours is currently doing exactly what you're doing to her as she thinks the fag ends are coming from my mother.. stupid woman isn't taking into account that other people pass by/wind blows them in etc etc

I am 100% sure it is coming from them and their twitty frinds.

think its a marvelous idea, got any tips on trying to get inconsiderate neighbors to stop parking in the visitors space so we can have visitors round?!?!

wouold tell them first rather than stuff a load of dogends through their letter box - also your hands will stink if you do that.

rhubarb for some people talking isnt an option, its depends how much the comback might be, as with my neighbors and the parking, i know it would make matters worse!! thats why i didnt even mention the 2 police cars and an ambulance they had outside our flats at 3am the other morning.....right must not hijack thread! im off!

Rhubarb - Yes and they are very polite and apologetic but when they are drunk/stoned seem to forget.

I know someone who had a persistent problem with a specific dog leaving their excrement outside their gate.

They returned it to the rightful owner in the same manner (after getting an earful for returning it to the owners pavement in the first instance!!!)

TBH I would rather have cigarette ends than dog poo.

Could you try to meet them halfway - put something outside that could serve as an ashtray and ask them nicely to use it?

My Granda did that to one of his neighbours when I was little and stepped in some dog poop. Maybe it is his influence!

Stick a note through their door saying 'oi, your tab ends are making a mess of the communal entrance, would you mind picking them up every now & again?'

It's smoker mentality. When I smoked I used to drop fag-ends all over the place, while chuntering about the foulness of chewing gum!

You are uptight because you are selling your flat - understandable.

Soon you will move and will never have to see their fag ends again. Hold on to that thought. Not worth a neighbour row now.

pointydog - I take your point. I think it is because our flat has been on the market for 7 months that it is now taking a toll on me. Plus their slamming doors keep disturbing our baby which makes me want to throttle them!

Forgot to mention, said letterbox is on an outside wall so they could just through on to the pavement - is this a consideration?

I'd corner them one day and say, look, can we talk? Then ask them if they would be a bit careful about a) fags and b) waking up the baby.
They might be really nice about it.
If they tell you to F off, just sweep the fag butts to 'their' side of the entrance, or outside their door...if they question it, say it was the wind and deny all knowledge
