Gah! AIBU to think that girls aged 8-9 go through some sort of massive developmental thing? PFB dd has recently surprised me by being so much more sensitive than usual, quite hyperactive with lots of fidgeting and constantly checking me out to sass out my mood am not that moody just to say. If I dare ask her to stop doing something or doing it 'properly' she becomes argumentative and mega fidgety. She is also suddenly much more clued into her friend's feelings and actions and just generally prickly and sensitive with everyone.

AIBU to think something major is going on and she has truly stopped being a 'small' child and I need to go with the times e.g. adapt my parenting? But how?

I have two DDs. They're 13 and 10. When mine hit the stage you're talking about, I have for both girls, relaxed certain things and given them a tad more freedom.

With my youngest, that means a later bedtime on weekends and being allowed to go to the shops...she likes to go and spend her pocket money. As it's only down the road with hardly any traffic, this is fine.

Letting them have more freedom is a nod to their growing maturity....and they like that.
