Nursery or grandma for 11 month old?

Should I put my daughter in nursery for 2 days a week and 2 with grandma or fully with grandma?
What worked for you guys? Also my Mil speaks a different language which I really want her to understand! Do any of you have experience with bilingual children ? Thanks.

Depends on the grandma I guess! I'm not overly keen on any of the nurseries I've visited for young children, and if grandma is great, I'd go for that. But if grandma is going to struggle/get tired/ find it too much, then I'd search to find good childcare to balance it a little.

Depends on grandma and your (you and dp) relationship with her. I had no choice of grandparents but would have loved a day or two if they'd offered. If you go a generation up...not so good.

3 with grandma and one at nursery to begin with and work up to a bit more nusery from there?

I've seen a lot of friends go through this and the overwhelming impression has been that a combination of nursery and grandparents works well. You can have the positives of both options and a back-up if either doesn't work or if the baby is too unwell for nursery/grandparent is unwell, with your baby being comfortable in both places.

Obviously you need to find a nursery you trust, but that goes for grandparents too!

If grandma is capable and happy to do it then imo that's the best option. A nursery is never going to pay your child as much attention as grandma and won't provide one on one care like grandma will.

Oh and your baby will get different things from each option, so they'll learn different skills.

I'd do 2 mornings at nursery and the rest with grandma.

4 days a week is a lot - is grandma fit, healthy and willing to commit to that? For some GPs one day a week is too much, others are happy to look after grandkids full time. Some GPs would stick their grandkids in front of the tv all day and others make more effort to interact with them.

My mum will be looking after DS2 3 days a week when I go back to work but she actively wants to and thinks it’s better for him not to go to nursery until he’s older.

With GPs doing childcare you have to be a bit flexible and whilst they should follow your wishes about important things, you also have to remember they are doing you a huge favour and saving you a lot of £££ so a bit of give on your part is crucial too.

Then there’s the social side of paid childcare to consider which is arguably less important at 11 months but something you might want to consider when baby is older.

We do 2 Grandma 2 nursery and have since 6m. Has worked well. She’s covered sickness that means DD can’t go to nursery. Nursery have covered her going on holiday. Grandma is early retired so not too old. I think 4 days is too much to ask anyone.

My DS does 2 at nursery and 3 with grandma and it works really well. He gets HEAPS of attention at nursery, tons of toys and a lot less time in jumpers and walkers than when he is with my mum who is probably a bit over cautious with him.

Nursery can and will support the second language if you mention it to them - think displays on the walls, practitioners learning words in that language.

If you're wanting her to be in nursery when she's older, then it's best to get her accustomed to it now, even just for a session or two a week. She'll find it harder to adjust when she's older and used to always being with you and grandma.

I'd go grandma ft until dc is older. I didn't like nursery for mine until they could communicate back to me about whether they liked it or not. Another think to consider is whether grandma will mind getting all the bugs, colds etc she'll pick up from nursery.
