To sell DH's car

DH has left his old car either on our driveway or in a friend's business parking space for 3 years (or is it 4? It feels like 20). He got a new car and was supposed to sell this one to fund the new one. Since it has been abandoned it has been cleaned up and MOTd twice. I have no idea why he hasn't sold it and have been supportive, kind, angry, despairing etc over this period.

I cannot take anymore. It's in the way so we have to squash three cars on our driveway and every time I see it I get a tiny bit more ground down.

So AIBU to sell it for £50 to the first person who wants the bastarding thing?

3 years? Doesn’t sounds at all like you’re being unreasonable! I’d tell him calmly he has till e.g. till end of May to do something constructive with it or you’re taking some pics and sticking it on a website for £50 end of discussion as you’re sick of it sitting there mouldering! TBH you’ve lasted longer than I would have!

mintbiscuit · 21/04/2018 19:36

£50?! YABU. You’ll get more than that selling it for scrap! Grin

QuiteLikely5 · 21/04/2018 19:37

I’ll give you £50

Where are you? Smile

ToyotaMR2 · 21/04/2018 19:39

Lynzpynz - tried that. He just says he will and then doesn't. It now has a flat battery. Maybe I should use it to dispose of his body? I could put him in it and push it into a quarry.

£50 is more than THE ABSOLUTELY FUCKING NOTHING it is worth while it is sitting there like some kind of giant garden gnome.

Would eBay be more sensible? It's seriously stressing me out!

Try we buy any car? Sold one on their and super easy and got an ok price.

gamerchick · 21/04/2018 19:43

Just scrap it or webuyanycar.com if you’re not arsed about how much you get. Those fuckers are proper bandits.

😂 lol! Reading this made my hubby ask why I snorted out loud laughing! Maybe instead of threatening to sell it at the end of May instead threaten him with THAT! Poor you, sounds like it’s a long standing pain in the bum!

ToyotaMR2 · 21/04/2018 19:45

Good idea. I'm really pissed off that I have to deal with this. The worst thing is that he's done it before around the time we first met. He left a broken down car on his mum's front lawn for 3 years. I made him get rid of it. His mum was incredibly grateful. I should've read the warning signs.

Is it any kind of remotely interesting car - ie a future classic - or are we just talking Astra / Mondeo?

ToyotaMR2 · 21/04/2018 19:48

It's a Toyota MR2 roadster but not the classic kind. It's a really nice car but has a bit of damage to the bodywork.

lovetoomuchfood · 21/04/2018 19:51

ebay it, it will get way more than £50 and will be easier for someone to come and collect.

lovetoomuchfood · 21/04/2018 19:53

ps, would drive me mad too!

Nice car!

gamerchick · 21/04/2018 19:59

That looks like it could be a decent project for someone. Definitely stick it on eBay.

Cash on collection though.

CherryBlossomSeason · 21/04/2018 19:59

Is he attached to some kind of memory?!

ToyotaMR2 · 21/04/2018 20:01

Yes it is nice, isn't it? It's really good fun and has a hard top too. So why is he being so unspeakably cruel to it?

BikeRunSki · 21/04/2018 20:23

Until you posted the pic, I thought you might be my neighbour 😄. No advice, but be comforted that there is a similar situation going on with an MGF in my street.

ToyotaMR2 · 21/04/2018 20:30

Maybe I should form a support group Grin

topcat2014 · 23/04/2018 18:39

Now, I can see why you might keep that car - and I suppose the clue is in the username OP!.

Surely it can't be that expensive to get it fixed up?

I have no practical skills whatsoever

AnnieAnoniMouser · 23/04/2018 18:46

Oh it’s a little cutie. If I hadn’t just bought my car I’d have come and relieved you of it! It would have been win/win because I could have then justified (to myself) a two door sporty car, which I couldn’t when there wasn’t a ‘good reason’ for it.
