To Think the 90's Were The Best Decade We've Had?

Certainly from a personal point of view;

Real music with guitars and drums and everything.

The emergence of dance music.

Mobile phones hit the market place (it made it so much easier to meet people you met previously - instead of having to ring their house number and speak to their Dad)

We were even allowed to choose our own email address. [email protected]!

TV was great, as were the Films

The 80's were just depressing and the 00's were a non event.

Yessss! Oh the hours I spend reminiscing about the good times of the 90's. Whenever the doldrums of everyday life gets too much, I just slip off to a daydream.. Im back at that rave or sunning myself at a festival, or going out with that guy from the band in his convertible. When the phone rang (landline) the excitement of who it might be rather than knowing and no Facebook to make me feel paranoid, inadequate or underwhelmed. I looked good felt great and there was no blah blah jargon of tweets, hashtags and instaglam. So much fun....

I loved the 90’s but then I came of age in the 90’s so I suppose that’s why but then I lived my childhood in the 80’s too. I think we all look back and remember our teenage years fondly I mean my gran always thought the 40’s were amazing because that’s when she was young going out to dances and started working. I think we are biased to love the 90’s because that was ‘our era’ doesn’t stop me agreeing though.

God yes. I love DP and the DC and my job, but it does all feel very hard working and boring these days. I get so nostalgic for that era, when I was learning to drive and seeing friends all the time and then uni... sigh!

Well I agree but I left school in 1990 and went to college, did my nurse training started working a a nurse during the 90,s so basically grew up , if all these had happened to me during the 70,s I may have thought the 70,s were the best decade?

Employers still treated you like adults and going to the pub on a Friday lunchtime was part and parcel of working life.

i was a teenager inthe 00s and i dont really view it as a non event, i feel.a bit nostalgic thinking back to msn messenger, using codes off now70 something to get a 30 sec ringtone, square ended nails and the music back then,Grinbut the 90s were awesome agreed. Grin

(And try not to depress yourself with the realisation that's how our parents saw music from the 60's that we thought was soooo old fashioned!)

Dp and I loved the 90s. Partied hard. Worked hard. Did loads of very inappropriate things with no evidence on social media. Generally had a great time with great friends. Still love dance/rave music. Massively still complete twats. Now the kids have grown up and fucked off we are a little grown up but going back to really enjoying life.

The 90s were the new 60s
We had music, we had bright colours, we had good drugs and good times.
We also didn't have camera phones so drunken fun wasn't snapped for the world instantly see.
I used to love the x files, blind date, buffy, totp.
And bands, soooo many bands. Radiohead, Kula shaker, blur, pulp, the seahorses, the levellers, the cranberries.
The 90s were fun.
I want to be strolling down Brighton seafront in the sunshine with a split in my hand wearing my 70s purple flares with my dad's old Jimi Hendrix t shirt and my wonder woman hat. And my teeny tiny round yellow tinted sunglasses.
Screw being a grown up and screw the tenties. They're rubbish.

Funnily enough, I had a dream last night that I flounced out on Christmas Day and ended up in an AA meeting with Bobby Gillespie- so I've been having my own mini 90s revival already this morning.

Nope. The 1990's was not the best for me... Was defo the 1980's for me. Grin

Then again, I was a teen of the 80's. Smile

The 90's just bring back memories of trying to be a career woman as well as a mother, and trying to juggle everything, (along with trying to be 'supermum.') Lots of debt, high mortgage rates, and a backstabbing corporate world. (And lots of arguments with DH, trying to look after and appease elderly parents, and problems with the school and other mums/school gate mafia etc....)

So I didn't like the 90's, though I agree the television and music were good.

The 80's was my fave decade; no responsibilities, no debts, lots of travel, lots of partying and concert-going (Madonna, Wham, and Prince to name just 3,) holidaying abroad with mates. Great music, great films, great tv.

Things in the 2010's are kind of like that now. Kids have left, got no mortgage, got no debt, and me and DH hardly ever argue, and we travel a lot, and are starting to go partying again. Grin

Love my kids, and I loved raising them, but the time they were young, and at school, and I was had a career as well (along with a high mortgage and lots of debt,) was a hard time when I look back. The noughties were neither bad nor amazing, just OK I guess.....

I didn't want to mention the drugs but oh my, I had some WONDERFUL times with wonderful people doing wonderful things.

I was in my 20's for the 90's and obviously a teenager in the 80's, I just remember the 80's being rather drab.

Comparing now to 90's

Sky Q record up to 5 HD programs while various people watch another 3 HD channels on multiple devices, compared to being able to watch one analogue broadcast in real-time or record it (in reduced quality) on a VCR.

I have to say, London during the 90's was just exquisite.

It was easier in the 90s definitely. I have teenage nieces and the whole living life through social media thing seems such hard work. Everything done to put on fb/instagram.

The britpop days were great!

It is just me but was England just an amazing place in be during Euro 96 - it felt like the country was on a month long party in the Sun?

Yes 96 -97 everything was fab, the weather was definitely better in the 90's I remember the sun a lot in my memories I don't really recall the drab summer days we get nowadays. 96 went to see the prodigy at an all night rave at The Island Ilford that finished at 6am, you just don't get those kind of parties anymore due to EU and health and safety etc etc....

You're so right OP, I actually feel a bit emotional just thinking about it. I was also in my twenties in the 90s and I remember thinking even at the time that this is the best things can ever be.

I love having the DC and DP but I'd love to go back in time to the 90s just for one day (as Sleeper would say).
