Carpetright and my money

15 days ago I settled an outstanding payment (the room was bigger than expected) online when making an order through Carpetright. All fine, payment went instantly and I thought nothing more of it.

I then received notification from my bank to say I had gone overdrawn. As well as the outstanding payment amount, Carpetright took an additional £250 from my account. I immediately called customer services who didn't know what to do. I called several times, each time to be told they would get back to me within ten minutes. This never happened. I took to Twitter to complain thinking that maybe they'd take notice on a public platform. I was eventually contacted and told that the money would be returned within 3 working days.

It has now been 15 days. I have called nearly every day since the 3 working days were up, I have emailed customer services, I have called stores. I need my money back! I have continued to tweet as it's the only way I ever get a response, however I am always told to wait 'a few more days'.

AIBU to think there must be something more I can do?

Write to them giving them 14 days to refund the money and tell them you'll issue a summons if they don't.

Then issue a summons through the county court. I think you may be able to do it online now, it's a long time since I've done one.

Thank you, that's really helpful. I will be doing that tonight!

Aren't they closing stores and in trouble at present?

Can you contact your bank to say it was an unauthorised payment and see if they can get the money returned

They did this with me last year! £250 for a bed frame and £250 extra. Unfortunately it took the threat of legal action before they refunded!

Be very careful, Carpetright are looking to close some of its branches due to loss of profit.

I found a piece on realbusinessrescue.co.uk

Regards this

Good luck
