Amazon gift voucher

I was given an Amazon gift voucher for Christmas. Left it until now to buy anything with it. I could not use it as I couldn't find the email I received it on so contacted Amazon they can find it but have said that the person who gave it to me has to contact them.

Because I am embarrassed to do so I won't do that. I feel that it comes across badly to the person who gave it to me that I haven't spent it quickly and now I need to put them to assume trouble to access it.

Amazon says these things last 10 years. They may do but the reality is that because of the etiquette involved here this voucher won't be cashed in.

AIBU to think that Amazon are unreasonable here or is their system ethical and I should not have hang ups about this or should just have spent the voucher more quickly?

It’s not that you should have spent the voucher already, more that you have effectively lost it. I think Amazon are being reasonable but also that you shouldn’t worry about contacting the giver. Just apologise for needing their help.

Why not contact the person who gave it you? It's nothing to be worried about.

Surely a text like below would solve this

Hi, hope you are well.

Would you mind resending me the email with the amazon voucher her that you kindly y bought me for Christmas please as I've inadvertently deleted it and amazon are unable to help with a replacement and I'd hate it to be wasted

Thanks

I wouldn't be offended . They want you to use the money. You took time to select or waited until you needed a boost or a treat. I'd entirely understand that!

Are you searching your email on your phone? I don't know why, but I can never find things beyond a few months on my phone or iPad, but they're easily found when I log in on a PC

I dont think its too long ago. If i was the other person i would be happy to contact amazon to get your gift voucher back. I personally am not a fan of gift vouchers at all and yes i do think retailers rely on a percentage of them being lost in order to inflate their profits.

How did you receive the voucher? Ie was the email from Amazon, or direct from the sender? If the latter, then Amazon have no idea if it's rightfully yours or not.

You can add an Amazon voucher to your account immediately upon receipt, to spend later. I'm pretty sure the emails even include a link for it - no help for this occasion, but with remembering for the future.

Thanks Nicpern the wording is helpful. I know I am a wimp!

I am pretty sure the email was from Amazon. I tried logging onto my PC but still cannot find it. Amazon were able to find it and the lady I spoke to was helpful and tried to resend it to me but the computer wouldn't let her.

I either have to bite the bullet or just quietly feel irritated with it.

I will know in future to act quickly.

In future you don't have to spend it quickly, just put it on your account and then spend it when you're ready.

YABU- it is not Amazon’s fault you lost the email. Normal people would just get in contact with the person who bought them the voucher and explain the situation.
