Anyone else surprised that some of the cult members who escaped are still essentially cult members?!

I thought they all got therapy to “undo” the brain washing.

The guy who let Karesh marry two of his underage daughters and one of them died was shockingly also still a Branch member.

I remember that it was so sad Sad

I am sure there is a much more technical term than “undo” the brain washing .. Confused

I think it’s like any addiction. You have to want to get better if you don’t you won’t

Floralnomad · 16/04/2018 23:51

I’m just watching it on the +1 channel , I can only assume that if they still ‘believe’ it’s a bit easier to live with the fact that their relatives died for the cause . The alternative is to say you led them into the clutches of some nutter and that killed them , which must be harder to live with .

I didn't see the documentary & know little about the story.

But if you go off organised religion, a lot of people believe with very little input from anyone. Maybe their parents instilled the faith in them. At the same time many turn away becoming atheist & agnostic.

A little off topic but I read somewhere about the Gnostic Gospel and wonder if that has any bearing on the term agnostic.

I would think with any kind of abusive control, to truly escape you need a lot more than just deprogramming.

MrsSmile · 16/04/2018 23:54

Deprogrammung! Thank you!

Floralnomad Yes I thought the same.

I was living about an hour from Wacko when it happened. Can't believe so many were so brain washed and FUBAR and still actually believe that load of codswallop 25 years later.

Its hard to undo religion.
