Got my home/contents renewal quote in today and they want £404.42 compared to £238.96 last year which by my reckoning is a 69% increase. Fucking hell!! Have gone on confused.com and found a policy with similar cover and less excess for £188 with Hastings instead. Not impressed with More Than tbh

Ha! I've just had my pet insurance renewal come through and it's gone from £80 to £120! Might shop around again. Sigh.

FlorenceandtheWashingMachine · 16/04/2018 15:58

Sane here. I just rang up and cancelled having found it for half the original price (and I didn't even go with the lowest quote).

John Lewis tried same thing last month with pet insurance. Dumped them.

SmilingButClueless · 16/04/2018 16:02

They did similar to me with car insurance this year, no idea why - no accidents or claims, hadn’t changed age band, no different drivers... Didn’t even make an attempt to re-quote when I called to cancel the auto renewal.

Bluelady · 16/04/2018 16:04

Same thing here. Buildings and contents insurance up 20%. I found another policy for way, way less.

Sparklesocks · 16/04/2018 16:25

I always find a better deal online, then call my providers and say 'I really want to stay with you but I found a better deal with X' - they usually match or sometimes even go lower, always worth doing.

I very much doubt they will match a quote that is less than half the price they are quoting!

We had the same with tesco car insurance. Feb 2017 we took out car insurance with them for 476
Feb 2018 quote came through at 1862.. no accidents or claims.

Went on comparison sites and Tesco came up at 398... but wouldnt give us this quote on a renewal,if we wanted it we had to start a new policy... Went with someone else for 15 less anyway.

Jordan4531 · 16/04/2018 16:35

I only pay £5-6 a month for home and content insurance with TSB

HoarseMackerel · 16/04/2018 16:35

If my current provider sends me a high quote and then says they will match a lower quote from elsewhere, it immediately puts me off staying with them.
The much higher initial renewal quote says to me that they are happy to con you if you don't contest it!

SistersOfPercy · 16/04/2018 17:13

Quote Me Happy I found hilarious, my renewal was ridiculous compared to other companies but I thought I'd give them the opportunity to match it.
Went to the website, no phone lines (to keep costs down apparently) so went to the contact us option and chose the 'about my renewal' bit. Got this message. Cancelled there and then and went with Admiral 😂

It’s pretty standard practice to match lower quotes if they can retain business that way, a lot of companies will even send out too high quotes on purpose - it’s win/win, either the customer doesn’t quibble and pays it, or they agree to come down to a lower price that they still had in their quote threshold and they retain the customer
