for Businesses & Social Media -

Wetherspoons Quits Social Media

I've been surprised at how much time & effort businesses are putting into things like Twitter & how they often get stung by campaigns - some genuine, some malicious.

I buy products based on whether they do what I want & how much they cost, not on Facebook Posts...

Ah Wetherspoons, that barometer of all things-

Oh, wait.

It has got them a nice bit of publicity on the Beeb there...

JacquesHammer · 16/04/2018 11:24

No I don't think it will be. Certainly not for the smaller business

Neverender · 16/04/2018 11:29

Lots of businesses have done this just because their competitors have and it's proving to be a huge waste of money and time.

Neverender · 16/04/2018 11:30

The same as Apps - people tend to use them for discounts

Theworldisfullofgs · 16/04/2018 11:35

Weatherspoons' decision wouldn't have anything to do with the fact that Carole Cadwalla is looking into their activities, would it?

Youshallnotpass · 16/04/2018 11:39

Wetherspoons is a dinosaur company, I don't think they will still exist in 5-10 years.

IIIustriouslyIllogical · 16/04/2018 13:35

It’s becoming increasingly obvious that people spend too much time on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook, and struggle to control the compulsion.

Can't argue with that - look at how obsessive people can get, MN can be a good example of that. People can't let go & get overly invested in what are often trivial things.

As for "dinosaur" - their job is to sell beer & food & they do it well. Profits are on track for this year. Ditching Twitter won't make a blind bit of difference....

I had to Google Carole Cadwalla, I'd never heard of her.

What "activities" is she looking into then?? How will ditching Social Media stop her from doing it?

Google ‘Wetherspoons Carole Cadwalladr’ and check her Twitter.

SilverySurfer · 16/04/2018 15:29

Seems eminently sensible to me. Good on Weatherspoons, whoever they are.

Carole cadwalla broke the Cambridge Analytica / Facebook story. They were involved in Trump and Leave vote.
