Is this theft?

I've got the day off work tomorrow so taking DD to a theme park as a treat. Went to book online and tickets came to £35.

Money is tight so I had a good look online to see if there were any discount codes available but couldn't see any so I made a guess and typed the first code that popped into my head eg 'HALFPRICETICKETS' (not the one I used) into the box... hey presto 50% came off the booking.

Was feeling quite pleased with myself but now wondering if IABU and this is theft? And will I have an embarrassing encounter at the gates and get refused entry? WWYD?

It’s obviously a valid code for it to have worked!

honeysucklejasmine · 16/04/2018 09:22

No, it's a valid code. They should deactivate it if they don't want it used.

BMW6 · 16/04/2018 09:24

I don't see this as theft. I wonder if you would have got the discount whatever you typed into the discount code box!

Catspaws · 16/04/2018 09:24

How could this possibly be theft? It's a valid code that you have used.

I suppose the only concern is if it's specific to certain groups of people only you may be asked to prove that you belong when at the gate. I think that's very unlikely though.

SomeRandomBird · 16/04/2018 09:26

Oh phew! I had visions of them calling the police due to fraud Blush

PoisonousSmurf · 16/04/2018 09:27

Not theft at all. They shouldn't make the discount so obvious lol!

MummyFoxy · 16/04/2018 09:27

I admire your ingenuity! (I'll definitely be trying this next time I book tickets for somewhere Smile)

GlassSuppers · 16/04/2018 09:27

You sound like a thrifty genius Grin

Any other money saving tips? Blush

Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 16/04/2018 09:30

Not theft at all. You'll be fine, have a great day!

MiddleClassProblem · 16/04/2018 09:30

I wouldn’t have thought to do that! All you’ve done is given us the idea to give it a go. Not theft at all!

0range99 · 16/04/2018 09:31

Care to share OP?

LittleRen · 16/04/2018 09:36

The worst that can happen is they cancel the order and refund you. Unlikely unless they are checking every purchase, they can’t refuse entry on the day.

rookiemere · 16/04/2018 09:44

Absolutely not theft.
They plan on most people booking online using discounts as the full prices are ludicrous. Enjoy your day.

3stonedown · 16/04/2018 09:55

That's genius! Not theft at all.

Buster72 · 16/04/2018 10:01

Due to the legal definition it us not theft.
And I don't think it is fraudulent either.

GlitteryFluff · 16/04/2018 10:03

Intrigued to know where this is . Share the joy op Grin

SomeRandomBird · 16/04/2018 10:14

Okay this takes it to a new level... is sharing the discount code publicly on Mumsnet so thousands of others also claim the discount theft?!

OP posts:
SomeRandomBird · 16/04/2018 10:17

Tell you what if it works tomorrow and we get in no problem I will DM anyone interested with the theme park link and discount code.

OP posts:
BasilTheCat · 16/04/2018 10:31

I always try typing something in but it's never worked!
You genius!

TheArtfulScreamer · 16/04/2018 12:48

How did you imagine the call to police would go;
Police; Hello police what's your emergency?

Theme park; W e have a lady who has bought her tickets online and made up a code that our website has accepted and let her purchase her tickets at half price.

Police; Well clearly she is an international criminal genius and we best send the boys down to take her off the street.

OP this is just light hearted teasing please don't take offence but given the bashing the police often get for not having the man power to turn out and deal with burglaries etc given that what you've done isn't in anyway criminal you've nothing to worry about. Hope you and you daughter have a lovely day out together Grin

sirlee66 · 16/04/2018 12:54

Hahaha @TheArtfulScreamer Brilliant!!

Have a lovely day tomorrow, OP!

TheQueenOfWands · 16/04/2018 12:56

For Dominos you can quite often type the first 4/5 letters of your town and then 50 to get 50% off.

SomeRandomBird · 16/04/2018 13:24

Hehe thank you TheArtfulScreamer - when you put it that way I realise Im no criminal mastermind. I still feel like I've been naughty though.

Enough money left to buy lunch out now instead of packed lunch so they will still be getting my cash.

Quite often codes are things like spring18 or summer18 etc.

Please do share the park and code will be good to know 😊

NeedMoreSleepOrSugar · 16/04/2018 13:35

No doubt if you Google the name of the park and the code you used, it's already printed somewhere online, you just saved yourself the bother of looking for it Grin
