To think this is shit

In bed with flu and had provisional plans to go to an event with a new friend tonight who only met once. They messaged a couple of times to let me know they were going but by the time I registered, it was too late. I messaged apologising profusely, saying I’d been ill and out of it but I’d be really keen to catch something else with them down the line if they would be also. I will prob also message in a week or two to suggest an event as I liked the person and would like to hang out... have I burnt my bridges?

Has the friend replied?

PizzaWithRocket · 14/04/2018 21:44

Not yet but they are at event.

Was it just the two of you going?

KittyVonCatsworth · 14/04/2018 21:47

I do think you’ve been a bit flaky IMO. Hope you’re feeling better now x

anyoldname76 · 14/04/2018 21:48

was it just you and the friend?

Travis1 · 14/04/2018 21:48

Does it mean they’ve been left there themself?

Dozer · 14/04/2018 21:49

Rude not to text them.

PizzaWithRocket · 14/04/2018 22:07

They were planning to go anyway, it was more of a drunken ooh let me know if you go type thing made at 3am at a party. We texted a bit since though. I liked them a lot though and would like to stay in touch!

I don't see why you can't get in touch and suggest a further meet up. If they say no, they say no. I'd maybe not text loads in between times though. Maybe a bit needy.

SilverySurfer · 14/04/2018 22:15

So you're too ill to text your friend that you wouldn't be going but well enough to chat about it on MN? I'd call that flaky behaviour and I wouldn't be impressed if I were your friend.

PizzaWithRocket · 14/04/2018 22:17

No I texted her hours ago! I just wasn’t looking at my phone and hadn’t realised the event was tonight, does that make sense? Posted a thread about it after obviously

Shit happens & they were going anyway. Give them a call tomorrow and see how it went.

Hope you’re feeling better soon 💐

silvery yawn bloody yawn. I managed to mumsnet when I had pneumonia (officially diagnosed by officials Grin )
I also managed to mumsnet when I thought I was having a heart attack and couldn't move due to chest pain (pulled muscle Blush )

Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar · 14/04/2018 22:26

Bloody rude not to let them know.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 14/04/2018 22:35

You might get a pass if you explain you had flu and were spluttering snot everywhere. They’ll think they dodged a bullet.

stayanotherday · 14/04/2018 22:35

I'd suggest a further meet up and see what they say.

birdiebirdiewoofwoof · 14/04/2018 22:42

I think you get one pass to do something like this. Twice is flaky, but once is just being woozy with the flu and losing track of the calendar. I did this to a friend last year - after cancelling one dinner due to a death in my family, I proceeded to catch flu a few weeks later and completely forgot we'd rearranged our original plans for then... She's still talking to me!
