CP advice

My nephew came out with chicken pox on Monday / Tuesday. He was at my house around my toddler on the Friday.
My toddler so far has no sign of illness but I know they can take a while to come out.
We're supposed to be visiting my dad (who is terminally ill) next weekend, so 14 days after ds might have been exposed to the virus. If my son has got chicken pox will there be some sign by then?
I obviously don't want to take him if there's a chance he could expose my dad to CP but we can't just visit any weekend as he's an 8 hour drive from us which involves an overnight on the way down to break up the journey.

It was nearer 3 weeks after exposure when mine had it.

Incubation is up to 21 days, mostly tends to be around 13-14 days, so I don't know if that means you might want to plan around that.
Of course, you might escape it this time

kaytee87 · 14/04/2018 15:54

It's hard to know what's best to do Sad
My dad has had chicken pox but is immunocompromised obviously.
I know he'll be gutted if we don't know as every time we visit could be the last time we see him.

Incubation of chicken pox is long,: 7- 21 days.
It's most infectious just before the spots appear, so you can be spreading it around before you know you've got it.
So he can't really see your dad at 14 days.
Sorry.Flowers
Could you not go by yourself? ( Assuming you've definitely had it yourself, and are immune)

kaytee87 · 14/04/2018 15:55

Go not know*

@DancingLedge no I can't go myself, recovering from a broken ankle and can't drive yet Sad DH was going to drive us down.

If DN's spots came out on Monday into Tuesday would he definitely have been infectious on the Friday do you think?

Bambamber · 14/04/2018 16:00

As pp said it's most contagious before the spots appear. Sadly I really wouldn't risk it. Is there anyone you could leave your toddler with for a couple of days so your husband could still take you?

kaytee87 · 14/04/2018 16:03

@Bambamber he's only been left for 1 night before, I don't think he'd cope well with 3 nights (especially if he was coming down with something) even if I could get someone which is doubtful for that length of time.
Will have to look at our calendars and try to figure something else out Sad
I know my dads going to say we should come anyway.

Everything you ever needed to know about chicken pox without listening to old wives tales

Could you all not just drive down as planned but leave your little one with DH and visit your dad on your own just in case he is infected?

Bambamber · 14/04/2018 16:49

It's a tough position to be in because he may not have caught them anyway so may not even be an issue.

Is there anyone looking after your dad that you could contact for advice? A health professional will be able to give you the best advice

kaytee87 · 14/04/2018 16:53

@Beaubeagle we're supposed to be staying with my dad and spending the weekend with him.

I think I will text my dads wife and ask if she can contact his consultant.

If your dad is immune compromised due to chemo it won't matter that he's had CP before. Chemo wipes out your immune system so it's new iykwim (been there).
Sorry, I wouldn't go.
