AIBU to think Poundland should change their name

Poundland used to be everything one pound but recently trying to find anything in there that is actually one pound is getting harder, went in yesterday for a couple of bits, picked up a bag of bird seed for the outside birds, went to the self scan machine and it scanned at £5 for one bag of ruddy birdseed, i questioned the price and the assistant said yes that's the right price, sorry don't mind spending a quid to feed the birds but five pounds no way, so went to the other one Poundworld and got a bag of birdseed for guess what £1

Yanbu. I took a fair amount of stuff to the counter last week (toiletries) that scanned as £2 and £3. This was not indicated on the shelves or I'd have left them. I pointed this out to the cashier. He shrugged, 'so do you want them' I said no and left emptyhanded. Our local one now has a CLOTHES section too (nothing costs £1 there either)

Poundland and poundworld are all like this now. We just don’t go anymore as you can buy it all else where for the same prices.

Used to love finding branded, shampoos , shower gels and toothpastes in there for half what they were in Asda, glad i stockpiled while i could lol

Yanbu. They should label the more than a pound items clearly!

flowerslemonade · 13/04/2018 16:15

I don't think it's as good value at it used to be.
Some items are no cheaper than Wilko but there used to be a big difference.

Bluelonerose · 13/04/2018 16:18

Totally agree. I only nipped in for a few things questioned it at the till to be told "price is on the shelf"
Yes it was my fault for thinking Poundland sold things for £1 Hmm

I just wait till it's on offer in Tesco and stick up then

It's called Dealz here in Ireland.

Everything is €1.49. I guess Euroandfortyninecentland didn't fit on the sign.

The one near me has been signed as "Poundland & more" still things for just £1 but gradually increasing the "more" stuff.

ilovesooty · 13/04/2018 16:23

In the Netherlands the €1 shop became the €2 shop.

I never shop here after discovering the joys of Home Bargains and B&M

Our poundland is the same. Its annoying and i dont go in much anymore. Poundworld didnt last long here.

I have to agree I went in our local one the other week and everything I wanted to purchase was more the £1 including but not limited to such excitement as (loo roll, washing up liquid, padded envelopes and even anti bac wipes!)

I think poundworld is better. Most of their non £1 items are at the end of aisles or in separate bins and clearly labelled so its easy to see they are more than £1. Things in poundland however were just on the selves alongside other items and without proper labelling which is probably why it annoys me and others so much.
