New job preparation AIBU

I’m due to start a new job soon. I haven’t yet been given a start date, but the company have asked me when I can start, and will then arrange a start date based on that.

I’m available to start ASAP, so have told them I can start next week. Although, as the company have said they’ve got to order in some equipment for me, I think next week might be a bit soon to start.

My AIBU is this: AIBU to ask you what job preparation I should be doing at this stage? Is now the time, for example, for me to ask the company for a copy of my contract (and details of my probation period etc.) as well as for details of my salary (as the salary was advertised as a range on the job advert)?

This is the first permanent job I’ve had, so I’ve never been through this pre-job preparation process before.

Thanks very much :)

Didn't you ask about the salary when you accepted the position? In my opinion, that would have been the time to ask about that.

Once your start date has been confirmed, then most companies would send out a copy of the contract for you to sign. If not, ring and ask them for one. It should have details of any probation period etc in there.

Yes, ask if you can go in ASAP to discuss the contract and salary.

Didn't they make you a written offer that specified the salary? How did you accept the offer without knowing the salary, surely that's pretty essential information.

It will probably be if it was advertised at a range that they will give you the bottom of the range but you should ask. Normally you get an official offer letter detailing your salary, have you had this yet?
