Toddler keeps bumping his head at nursery.

I'm not sure if IABU to take it further with the nursery or not. DS is 23 months and goes to nursery full time (8am-6pm Monday to Friday). Over the past 3-4 weeks he has fallen and bumped his head (always enough to create a big bump and twice a decent cut). Does this seem excessive for within a nursery setting. He has also had 9 days off over this period for holidays and easter weekend so hasn't actually been there full time.

I can count on one hand the number of times he has bumped his head at home since he started walking over a year ago - and only once had a bump like the nursery ones when he ran into a door corner at about 13 months.

Does the number of nursery head bumps seem excessive?

Or is it normal for a toddler to bump his head often and is he just lucky to have never bumped his head at home recently. We don't 'over-supervise' at home too much (except on the stairs which he is still learning to walk up/down), he is very active and runs around A LOT and there are plenty of door frame/table corners etc - he just seems to be aware of them and doesn't run/fall into them at home.

I'm not sure what is different at nursery and if i should raise it with his key worker/manager or is this a non-issue?

Sorry - I don't think I said in my OP - 4 bumps in the past 3.5 weeks

Might it be that he's more active at nursery? And with other children they're probably all bumping into each other, too.

I'd raise it in a "can you keep a special eye on him" way, not a "my precious baby how dare you" way. That would be fine in places I've worked.

I'd ask for a meeting just to discuss if there are any common pattens with how the bumps are happening - say they are happening at he same time of the day, I say this as DD gets super clumsy when she is tired! - it does seem a lot for such sigificant bumps to happen - DD is 23mnths as well and in nursery full time and frankly a bit feral at the moment so regularly get little bruises/marks on her head if she bounces off somthing wrong but a can't even remember the last time she had a bump significant enough to cause a lump or proper cut!

Thanks both. I’ll speak to the nursery and see what they say.
