So many dog owners have had issues with accidentally eating it (on streets or around homes) so it seam very To have something so deadly to dogs so wildly available.

Chocolate is also poisonous to dogs, do you want that controlled too? And grapes and raisins, I believe?

Chocolate and raisins aren't deadly though, xylitol is and in small amounts. It's paramount to rat poison and it's offten found on the streets in amounts that could kill a small dog with one quick bitr

What's it found in? Sounds worrying.

jnfrrss · 12/04/2018 17:27

Mints and chewing gum, it is very worrying imo.

Raisins and chocolate are as deadly. Raisins in particular.

Very small amounts of raisins can cause renal failure. Unless you witness the ingestion and start treatment it is deadly. Once symptoms show it is too late.

Chocolate acts very quickly and is cardiac in effect. It can be treated after symptoms show though, although not always effective.

Xylitol causes an insulin storm. The dog will go into a hypoglycaemic coma. As long as the dog is started on a dextrose infusion it should make a full recovery.

It’s not really “paramount to rat poison”. Some rat poisons aren’t even toxic to dogs.

I think there needs to be a warning on the packet and more awareness.
Usually, I don’t react from sweetners but with xylitol it is nasty lol.
